Re: Crew Cab airplane tug???

Probably the only one in existence. most of those truck based tugs were one offs. I work at an airport and you see some strange contraptions that have been put together to drag planes around.

Re: Crew Cab airplane tug???

Shipshewana, IN is about 45 minutes south where I live. It is full of amish people. A lot of horse and buggies. It is like stepping back in time. The pictures that people posted help a lot. I could not figure out what a airplane tugger looked like by just looking at the cab on CL.

I bought this thing

Well I bought this thing.I have seen this body sitting in shipshe for over 20 years.
Long ago I stopped in and tried to find out about it and was run off. When I seen it on craigslist it was on.

Plans 89 chevy longbed frame lowered.
channeled but not chopped body
some kind of cool grill (tractor maybe)with a long hood
cut down bed
no fenders
airforce theme

Re: Crew Cab airplane tug???

Thats going to be a cool build!
If Its was mine, I would convert the firewall back to accept an A.D. hood, grille etc on both ends and make It look the same comming and going.

Re: Crew Cab airplane tug???

There's one for sale up in South Dakota on Craigslist. I called and asked what he wanted for it. "Come look and make and offer" was his reply. Well, it's 500 miles just for that. He aslo stated 6 others had done the same and no one offered what he thought it is worth. I'm guessing I won't be able to meet his expected price.

My guess is that it steered from both cabs. so if you think about how many obsticles there is at an airport or worse a airplane factory. it would make life easier.
