Lets play, "Whats this wire!"
Ok, trying to figure out what this might go to. Has never been hooked up since I've owned the truck. We thought at first might be like an o2 sensor wire, but it's not.
1987 R10 350 TBI 700R4 Wire is on passenger side, coils around the transmission lines and goes in to a loom that goes up the side of the block. Is blue in color. What is it? Can take more photos if needed, did the best I could real fast with it on the ground.

Re: Lets play, "Whats this wire!"
After looking at my painters 88 Blazer, looks like it goes to a sensor of some sort on the right side of the block, right by the oil pan. My old motor has the sensor, says DR6998086 on it. New block does not have a hole for this sensor.
What oh what is it?

Re: Lets play, "Whats this wire!"
Oil pressure sensor is on the other side, so is the water temp sensor. I'd venture to say it goes in the block where water is, dunno. I know the thing has been unplugged for a while, and never got a CEL from it, would just really like to know exactly what it is since we have no way of hooking it up now.
*edit* Looked up a knock sensor, I think you're right. http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...2200&ppt=C0033

Re: Lets play, "Whats this wire!"
That is a knock sensor. There is only one, it goes to the passenger side. That wire is correct for the KS. The KS goes in the drain hole on the passenger side. The new block may have a plug instead of being open, but should be there.

like octane, leaded/unleaded it could start to knock this sensor picks it up and advances or retards the timing. on some cars you can screw the sensor out and ground the sensor and you would get 5+ HP but you have to time the engine if you just unplug it it would run like crap but will not throw a code

Re: Lets play, "Whats this wire!"
The knock sensor picks up the sound from pinging. It sends a signal to the ESC (electric spark control) to pull timing out to stop the detonation. It will pull timing out 4 degrees, then return it 2 degrees at a time as long as there is no detonation. I don't think it will advance it over where it is set, but it will retard it as needed when detonation occurs.
