79 custom deluxe "blue goose"
well heres my new 79 custom deluxe its got a 250 three on the tree and 3.08s in the rear. i bought this truck becouse its solidand needed just a little work to make it streetable and it being the same color as my first truck swayed my judgement.
its a good truck and i like it alot i just haven figgured out how im gonna go with this project. i plan to lower it i just dont know how low i want the truck quite yet and i have no clue what kind of rims and all im gonna use, but ill have that all planed out in time well in the past 2 weeks ive gotten alot done to the blue goose. i got it home and washed it, then stripped the interor and fully cleaned it, then i changed all the belts and hoses with new hardware and thormostat(now it runs at the first mark on the temp guage insted of the second mark ), then i tore down the rear brakes and put new wheel cylenders and new pads and had the drums turned, then i tore down the front brakes yesterday and had the rotors turned and in the near future im gonna buy new pads and new soft lines. at this point all i lack geting it street legal is replace the back up light switch, finish front brakes drop on a new master cylender, install new motor mounts and rebuild the carb and it should be street legal! and i would love to hear what yall would do to this truck to, so give me som ideas couse realy i have none rite now

Re: 79 custom deluxe "blue goose"
well ive got alot done in the past few weeks
built a custom cold air intake out of pvc pipe cost under 5 bucks installed a summit racing flex fan i had on my 77 on the blue goose cleaned, repaired, primed twice, and painted the floor pans i tore down the stock rockchester verijet this afternoon to start rebuilding it hopefully this will help its stumbling problem and this is just a good picture of my two favrite trucks my total investment in this truck so far is $1209.58 which is not bad considering ive also replaced the master cylender, brakes all the way around, all soft lines, changed the oil, replaced plugs and a bunch of other fun and easy projects

Re: 79 custom deluxe "blue goose"
well ive been working steadily on my 79 and ive now got flowmaster duel exhaust
it has a gutted cat, flowmaster 40 serise muffler with duel tail pipes and chrome tips. the truck sounds a whole lot better in person. and i have installed a set of kyb shocks which helped the handleing tremendously and next my plans are to find a non integral head 250 and build it up with a towing cam, headers, shave the head, port and polish, 4 bbl intake and a holley 390 with vaccume secondares, DUI distriubtor, and a 4 speed transmission with a lower first gear.

Re: 79 custom deluxe "blue goose"
drug home a 250(non-integral head) out of a 67 Chevy c-10 I am planning on rebuilding it for my 79, I want to have it bored out and put some flat top pistons, towing cam, 4bbl intake and carb (might switch to a self tuning fuel injection in the future), roller rockers, and headers. I plan on using an 80's Chevy 833 4 speed with overdrive and 3.73's with a locker in the back. Here are some pics
i think it will be a good engine to rebuild and give me plenty years of service

Gotta love straight 6's! I wish my 79 still had the original 250 in it. Good luck!

Re: 79 custom deluxe "blue goose"
will do. im dropping mine 3 inches in front. a flip kit usually drops the rear about 5-6 inches. both the springs and flip kit are about $100 bucks each at summit racing. will need new shocks too.

Re: 79 custom deluxe "blue goose"
got the head back from the machine shop he installed 1.94 intake and 1.60 exhaust valves with .040 off the head and a 3 angle valve grind. sending the block off next for the rotating assembly to be ballanced, crank turned, new pistons, and a towing cam with a strong smooth idle. as for the rest of the drive train i have yet to find a 4 speed with o/d so i will probly run a car 4 speed with a lower first gear and keep my 3.08's in the rear and just add a locker. hopefuly pics coming soon

Re: 79 custom deluxe "blue goose"
Maybe a SM465 would bolt up. I know its a granny-low gear 4 speed, but they're pretty cheap. I would love a Muncie 4-speed in my 79, but people want my first born for a nice one. TH-350 seems to be the cheapest option for me, but good luck with yours! Mine is the shortbed brother to yours. It originally had the 250/3OTT combo before the previous owner dropped in the 350/350 combo.

Re: 79 custom deluxe "blue goose"
Man I got a granny gear sitting in the shop floor but I want to keep the truck where it is very street able and I can drive it every day. A granny gear is a very very heavy transmission and the internals are very heavy which eats up hp. I am probly going to run the Richmond T10 with the 2.64 1st gear. It’s got an aluminum case so it should be lighter that my 3 speed and I looked on Richmond’s website and it has the same bolt pattern and it is about the same physical size as my 3 speed
