Face lift on the 66.....It was time!

I was hesitant to have anything done to it because the paint is over 15 years old and I didnt think it could be matched.. The desire to have the 7+ year old body crunch fixed and the 80's Ford towing mirrors removed was too great so it hit the body shop last week. He did a great job and the paint matched perfectly!

Time for some new mirrors!

I cant remember what size tires they are...they have been on there for 15+ years...Ill look tomorrow. Rims are 15x8. I used a shop in Cartersville....He has painted my stuff for years and is a great guy, great price, fair, quick and professional. You will not have your typical paint and body woes with him.

It has been mentioned in a thread or 2 in the past....but here is the story.

I went with a friend of mine (Jamie) in about 1982-3 to his uncles farm and we drug this out of the woods.....6cyl, 3 speed and no bed. He kept the truck for about 2 years building a 327 and converting it to a 4 speed in the floor. This was his/our community after school project....Somewhere about 1984-5 my oldest and best friend (Kevin) decided he wanted the truck and he bought it from Jamie for $600. It had a wooden flat bed, and lots of rust. Over the next 5 years Kevin and friends replaced sheet metal, aquired a bed, rebuilt the engine, swapped to a M-22, and I think 2 paint jobs. Kevin used this as his ONLY vehicle for many years. It then got promoted to boat hauler and eventually just sat in a pole barn only to be driven occasionally. Kevin died in a motorcylce crash 4 years ago and since he was still single (smart man) his parents had to deal with getting rid of his things. He had 2 close friends and they gave each of us one of his vehicles.

I have tried to keep it as he left it but being an 80's build a lot of it just had to be freshened up. I got rid of the braided hoses under the hood, replaced the rusted chrome modular wheels with some rallys, put some fresh bumpers on it and did a 3-5 drop. It runs great but is a typical leaky 327.....when the engine lets go I am going to build a 383 and probably put a 5 or a 6 speed in it.

Thanks for catching me up on the story behind your truck. I'm sorry to hear about your friend Kevin. It was nice of his parents to think of giving you the truck.

I love the truck, that is almost exactly what mine will look like when we finish except mine is '04 Acure Long Beach Blue Pearl and has a 396. Been a 10 year project, amazing how kids will slow down a project like that isn't it? This truck is my new desktop on my PC
