Cleaning a Grill?

Hello all...I just purchased a grill for my 69 stepside. I found it in fairly good shape, but is dull and needs cleaned and repainted in certain spots before I can re-mount it to my baby. I was wondering, is there anything I can do to get it looking like chrome again? I know its not chrome, but looking for a cleaner or "pointers" to restoring the bare metal pieces back to original. A new one cost $899...I got this puppy for 40 bucks!
Help....thanks!

Re: Cleaning a Grill?

Start with a can of E-Z Off oven cleaner. That's supposed to remove the anodizing, the hazy look that we don't like. Then, you gotta get the dings out of it. After that, you can start with a fine-grain sandpaper and work up to a really fine grain. Then, you can start with a Tripoli polishing compound. After some time, you'll arrive at that finish you want to achieve.

I talked to a guy about restoring mine and that's the process. He charges in the neighborhood of $500 for that process.
