which cylinder heads to use?

I have a 1975 chevy truck with a sb350 I am presently rebuilding, I have the stock heads, and I have a set of "swirlie" TBI heads off of a 1989 350 casting 14102193. which heads would you guys use? the motor is .030 with cast pistons, headers, edelbrock carb, mild cam, etc. NOT going to be racing it, just building a "fun" daily driver....opinions?? I dont have any more $ to put in on "new" heads, so I have to use one or the other....

Re: which cylinder heads to use?

for around $800 bux you can get a set of dart iron heads that are better then anything that gm ever made.

I hear nothing but good things on vortec heads, but I also hear tbi are good for low end torque.

Vortec heads are decent for stock heads but they dont allow for much lift without some machine work to the spring seats and valve guide area. stock is safe between 0.420 and 0.430 inch. But can be corrected by some work to the spring seat and valve guide area. These machining operations will produce enough clearance to allow between 0.525- and 0.550-inch valve lift before running into valvespring coil-bind. Something else to think about is he has to have a vortec conversion intake manifold too.
