Re: radio memory????

Well, you're running an aftermarket radio no doubt, because a factory deck would not have any sort of memory, not until 1990 in the square bodies at least.

There is a radio forum here, it's down below, lots of good info on it. Sounds like you just need to find the constant hot wire, and wire it up to the battery or a constant hot in your fuse block.

Re: radio memory????

check with a test light and key OFF to find a constant fuse, then use a terminal tap from there. Any autoparts store should have it.

Re: radio memory????

Should be a spot that says BATT and you can plug in a spade type connection, like a single side of a blade fuse. You'll want to be sure to put a fuse in the line if you use that connection. Otherwise, do as they said. Take a test light and find a hot fuse while the truck is not running. Should be a few of them in there to make a choice from, I'd find a nice 20 fuse to hook in to.

Re: radio memory????

have you checked the owners manual on how to set stations to memory? that could be the problem or possibly installation.. or even both.

Re: radio memory????

First thing id do is invest in a test light and learn how one works. 5 bucks i think and one of the simplest electrical tools you'll ever need.

I used the left side of the horn fuse. I'm pretty sure that's the "power" side, but i cant remember if i tested it or not. Make sure before you put alot of power through it or you may blow the horn fuse.

Re: radio memory????

Look where the needle of my test light is pointed. This is where you want the fuse tap to end up.

This is how the tap goes around the fuse.

Fuse inserted with tap.

I remember my first radio install. Didnt install it right and blew a cluster light fuse. Never told dad and drove for two days without cluster lights. Just wait till you get to the fun on an amplifier install! haha

Not really dumb if its the first time you've seen it. I did my first radio install 5 times at least, and each time i did it differently and improved it. Heck, my first speaker install i had 4 speakers running off the stock am/fm radio in my 77 from the single front speaker line! so one positive and one negative for 4 speakers!

The great don't become great by doing things right the first time. You will fail many times before you get it right, and its simply called experience.
