72 Highlander - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Well I just purchased a relativly solid 72 Chevy Highlander edition in Med olive & white and had a question to put out there. Is this edition truck worth restoring to original spec or should I make it a little bit personalized. Is this edition rare or worth anymore in the long run. It has the C package with Air tilt and tinted windows. I am not a fan of the special Avacoldo seat and was going to change the mirrors. Don't get me wrong I would also be happy to restore this truck to original status. The other nice option the person ordered on it was the factory rally wheels instead of the hub caps. Truck is currently complete.

No rally wheel option, one of the specials of the highlander were the specific full wheeel covers for the highlander package- they look the same as monte carlos of the same year. Member lonerife has 8 for sale on the parts board right now.

I don't see many people clamoring for a Highlander, but they are kind of unique. If yours is mostly original, you might want to keep it that way - is that what attracted you to it?
As they say, it's only original once.

Otherwise, make it the way you want it.

Good point...what I did with my BB 70cst is personlized it a little but it can easily be put back to stock form should I ever decide to do so.

Just like 70cst said he can easily go back,make sure you save every thing you decide to remove...eg mirrors...I got rid of some stuff off my truck that I changed a long time ago....should have boxed it up and put it up in the attic!!!!!

I think the Highander model was a GM thing designed to sway people towards a GM truck. You have to remember that in '72, the horsepower race was over. Horsepower ratings became Net ratings, in comparison to SAE ratings....and they were lower. Dodge had just introduced a new body style pickup and they had an extended cab model (Club Cab) that neither Ford nor GM had except through the aftermarket.

So,the Highlanders were a trim package that the factory created to dress up the old girl, just a touch. It was a special price incentive and while other options were available on it, it had a few specific items (upholstery and wheel covers) to create a touch of difference from the plain-Jane bottom line trucks.

I say all this from my memories of the day.
