Bedsides GM vs Repo how to tell?

I'm going to look at some longbox bedsides and the seller is saying they are GM. I find it hard to belive and think they might be Repos, There are no boxes. Is there a sure fire way to tell. They both have the square filler doors on them. Thanks

If they are indeed new, a new OE will have a GM sticker with a part # on it somewhere, and a repop will probably have an Aftermarket sticker of some sorts on it. I can tell by the ecoat that is on them, but that comes from decades of dealing with OE and A/M sheet metal.

Re: Bedsides GM vs Repo how to tell?

Bring a GM tail light and set it into the opening. If it's a nice tight gap around the headlight, then it's a GM bed side. If it's got a large, sloppy gap with too big of a radius on the sheet metal where the tail light buts up against it, then it's an aftermarket.

Re: Bedsides GM vs Repo how to tell?

we had aftermarkets on the 86 and the taillights fit fine no big gaps or anything and I know they were aftermarket ones.

Most 73-87 GM sheetmetal will have a "GM" stamp on it somewhere. For example, fenders have them on the backside of the lip where the fender meets the door. It is small, but it is there.

That's correct Jeff and the "Imports" will have the country of origin stamped on them somewhere.
