Pics would help.
Easy out, the bolt? Can you remove the entire assy somehow and take it to a machinist? If not possible then you maybe looking at torching the caliper.

do you have access to a welder? you can weld a nut on the threaded pin if enough of it is sticking out. i do this daily at my job, it does two things. lets you get a wrench on it, and it also puts a little heat in it also.

Re: so i broke the mounting bolt head off my caliper...
when i get it off i`ll just replace it,the allen head broke flush with the houseing... `i might` be able to weld a bolt in but i bet it won`t hold as my welder is setup for body work and not for thicker stuff...bad thing is this is my dd....
thanks guys keep the ideas coming...

Re: so i broke the mounting bolt head off my caliper...
can you grab the pin between the pads and turn it out that way??? you may have to remove the assembly then you can slide it off the disc to give yourself somemore room

Re: so i broke the mounting bolt head off my caliper...
i`m thinking the threads are seazed...i really didn`t work in it too much after the fact... going to pick up a new caliper tomorrow, then i guess i have to get rough with it..lol
i`m thinking i might be able to compress the piston, then try and use a small cutting wheel and cut the bolt next to the threads????

just make sure that the threads are not in the caliper support!!! like I said I would try to loosed it by the cross bar that holds the pads up

Re: so i broke the mounting bolt head off my caliper...
i can`t get to the cross bar, its not like the `old` ones where they go all the way thru the caliper, you can`t see the end of the bolt from the outside...

The idea is to weld a nut onto the end of the broken off piece to aid in extraction. You cannot replace it if it is stuck in place. It would be the best method of extracting the bolt. |
