Does your seat back pivot forward?

My seat back on my 69 GMC does not pivot forward. My Buddies 65 Chev. stepside does. I have removed the gas tank and put a CPP aluminum tank under the bed. I would like to put a Stereo/Speakers behind the seat now that I have more room back there, however I would like the seat to pivot forward to gain access behind the seat. I don't want to un-bolt the seat everytime I need to get back there. Were all 67-72 trucks provided with a non-tilt seat back?

Any ideas? Oh.....I'm talking about Bench seats.

Dale

Yes, the seat in my '69 stepper pivots forward. Not sure if it's stock though.

My '69 doesn't. I don't remember for sure, but it seems that the four '65's I had, did.

Yeah, the older trucks had that option. Safety concerns mandated that they be locked in the upright position, not sure what year, but I believe either 67 or 68.

I have a set of 1967 buddy buckets and the driver side seat back pivots forward.

Re: Does your seat back pivot forward?

Look at the pivot arm of your seat, (both sides) there is a stop on the arm and you have to remove the nut, and voila, you seat should now pivot. Can load pictures tonight for clarification.

John,
I was just outside in tne garage and "What You said"!!! I found the two countersunk phillips head bolt locking the pivot. Removed the two bolts,
and sure enough, the seat pivots forward! It seems to have some kind of stop where the back won't tilt back too far.

Thanks,
Dale

Re: Does your seat back pivot forward?

Lots of guys removed that second bolt back in the early years. If you're ever in a head on collision you'll find out why the government didn't think it was a good idea.

Not sure why everyone wants it to pivot. I guess it helps when replacing the sending unit every 10 or 15 years or if you've removed the tank and use the back of the seat for storage.
