Body mount spacers

What are you all using for body mount spacers? I looked at some 1/2 inch washers, but they aren't nearly big enough around. What have some of you used in order to get your lines straight. Thanks, Jeff.

Re: Body mount spacers

Nevermind, I saw TRZ's post in AK's post. McMaster-Carr has it all...

Re: Body mount spacers

Yeah, they can get spendy. I was able to minimize the cost by picking and choosing the right size and stacking them. A 1/4" shim is $15.63, while 1/8" is $4.73 so you can get your 1/4" for $9.46.

I had some gaps between some of the body mounts and the tub so I used a feeler gauge set to get an idea of what I needed. I spent about $50 and have probably 5 extra shims. I bought an assortment of 0.125, 0.100, 0.60, and 0.50. If I did it again I'd go with 0.100, 0.50, and 0.25. That would have been more than sufficient size variability to make things work.

If I remember right I had 3 mounts that needed some spacing and all the gaps were different. Had they been closer I would have just gone to the steel pile and grabbed some 3" flat stock of desired thickness and made my own shims. No where near as accurate but if it was say 1 body mount that needed attention it would be very doable.

Good luck!

if you know a lineman, the washers for power poles work great!

Thanks, Ya, I think I'm going to need some different sizes. It looks like at least a half to 1 inch on one and around a 1/4 on the other one. At least I hope that'll get me in the ball park.

hehe, ya I was looking at washers too, but they are almost as expensive as the spacers from McMaster.

x2 I'm a lineman by trade, and I've thrown enough of those washers away to cover a house. k5blazin is right, if you can locate a power co. or phone co contractor they will probably give you all you would need. (or for a 12 pack)

Re: Body mount spacers

I bought a couple of 3 1/2" pieces of flat stock from lowes in 1/8" and3/16" thickness cut them square and drilled a 1/2" hole in them. a little bit of work but had all i needed. i used a chop saw and driil press to drill several shims at a time.

Good idea! Should have thought of that myself.
