I can not get the power steering pulley on the pump!

Hey guys I just got done ordering the march peformance pulleys and brackets and I can not get the aluminum power steering pulley on the tuff stuff saginaw pump. I tried using the provided bolt, washer and nut. I thread the bolt into the pump, put the pulley on, thread on the nut, and then when I try to tighten the nut the pulley will not go on.

The pump also turns so I tried holding the pulley while I tighten the nut and that does not work either.

Should I try boiling the pulley to heat it up so that it expands and then try to put it on? (it is aluminum with a clear powdercoat)

What do you guys think?

I am pretty darn sure power steering pulleys have to be pressed on.

your thinking now also don't tell the wife but freezing the pump helps too...we use to shoot them with a CO2 fire extinguisher ....but then again I'm old school

if it keeps fighting you you may have to press it but this is cheap and easy so you have nothing to loose

That is the tool to use. You dont actually press them with a press. You press them with the tool.

Re: I can not get the power steering pulley on the pump!

I had the same question when replacing the stock pump....
took the old pump with pully to the to the autozone i frequent and played a little dumb about how to do the pulley swap.
the guy there showed me the tool, I asked a few questions about it and he pulled the old one and installed the new one to save me the 15 bux to "rent" the tool...
go when they are slow (;
