78 wiper switch functions
Hey all,
Recently upgraded my 76 wiper to 78 with delay and need to know what each position is on the switch. Previous owner couldnt remember what was supposed to happen when the switch is moved left of its normal resting position. Anybody know? Left- Resting position-full off right- delay operation full right- slow way right- fast push in- washer fluid Thx in advance. I'll post my 'how to' instructions when I get this switch figured out.

Re: 78 wiper switch functions
well from what I can figure out on my 79. Is full left is wash, next is slooow delay, sloow delay, slow delay, then slow*ie "fast"*. Now the part that confuses me is the turning and what that effects. Lol I didn't know till about a year ago that turning the knob effected it. Lol mine is missing the rubber piece that goes on it.

Re: 78 wiper switch functions
Vtwinsport, you hit it right on the head. I think turning the know clockwise decreases the delay time. Full left is a one time sweep or mist feature.

Re: 78 wiper switch functions
Thanks guys. My full left position does nothing but a single wipe, no washer fluid. Need to look into that.
Seems like neither of you have a full off position? That seems strange. Turning the knob clockwise shortens the delay time on my switch. Will look into that. Keep any comments coming.

Re: 78 wiper switch functions
I have one too.
Leftmost position - Single wipe, or it will operate until you let go of the switch or if you just flick the switch it will cycle once 2nd from left - OFF 3rd from left - DELAY (turning the knob sets the delay time) 4th from left - Lo Speed Constant Far Right - Hi Speed Constant Push the knob in to use the washers, to fully run the washer cycle though, you need to have the switch in the Lo position, on delay it will cut off before the cycle ends of you have it set to a short delay. you can start the washer in any switch position. Re: 78 wiper switch functions
Thank Kenny. That seems closer to what I have and what I expected.

Re: 78 wiper switch functions
I know this is an old thread now but im looking to put the 78-83 switch and delax box in my 76, do you happen to remember how you wired this? I can figure out the truck side of the wiring but I don't want to burn out the delay box and haven't come across a pinout for it.

Re: 78 wiper switch functions
Not at the moment but I can find out for you, I think I took pics and wrote down the wiring layout. Might be able to get that up for you by tomorrow.
I am having one issue; the wipers will wipe even when off, they do this on a really long delay. I used my harness when going through the firewall. I guy from GM told me to bypass the harness and use individual wires for everything except power. Haven't had time to see if that works.

Re: 78 wiper switch functions
Any help would be awesome, did you add your own wire off the park switch in the motor itself?

Re: 78 wiper switch functions
Not yet. If you PM me I can send to your email address the wiring diagram I used. That might help you.
