LT1 Headaches?

I have a chance to buy a Buick roadmaster for $500, what kind of headaches am I looking at to get the drive train into an s10 frame? I figure since I have the whole car I'll have most of the parts I need ie wiring, fuel pump etc. I dont shy away from a challenge.

Re: LT1 Headaches?

How may miles on it? Does it run good now? Not a bad price for a low milage good runner. But for a little more $$ you can have a late model LS. I got my 05 5.3 with a 4l60 for 1500 (wires, computer and all). The LT is a good motor, don't get me wrong I have one in my 38, but the LS is better. JMO

Re: LT1 Headaches?

Are you talking a 94-96 LT1?
If so grab the complete motor including the belt driven accessories, power steering pump, wiring harness including the fuse block, ECM, MAF sensor, fuel lines, cooling fans, oil dip stick, motor mounts, horns and whatever else looks useable. You can toss the coolant and windshield washer reservours. If the radiator hoses are green in colour they're made of Silicone and are Police special option and are good for a lifetime.
When I installed mine I replaced the water pump and Optispark Distibutor with quality OEM parts, new wires. I gutted the A/C pump as it will not fit because of frame interferience but I did use the pulley and bracket to keep the correct accessory belt configuration.

Re: LT1 Headaches?

Thanks
its a 96 Buick Roadmaster 5.7 136,000 on the odo. I got it last night for $400 complete, had two brand new tires, heated leather seats. It's all there, hopefully I'll have 90% of what I need to make this work, it did not have the green hoses. I found out after do a lot of searching i can get a a/c delete pulley to replace the compressor. I could use some help with the motor mount any pictures/diagrams would be great.
The passkey system is messed up I know how to take care of that for now till I can get the PCM flashed.

Re: LT1 Headaches?

56 it looks good in the picture, but the sun roof was broken out and the carpet was soaked , the right side was side swiped up on the door near the window and mirrors were broken and duct taped on,so it wasnt to hard, it would have cost more than it was worth to fix it.

Re: LT1 Headaches?

You can probably part out the rest and get your money back, too. If you think you might use A/C, Alan Groves makes a really nice set of accessory brackets, that mounts everything up a little higher. I would delete the EGR while you have it out, all of the B-body cars I have had woule eat them, and it is a lot easier to get rid of it now, since you will have to get the PCM flashed anyhow. It's a nice swap, though, especially for the price.

Jonboy
I might at some time put A/C on it, I am always interested in my options does Alan have a web site or company?
I am going as far as I can without spending much money, since I don't have much to spend on it. The roadmaster was a good find I got a lot of stuff for the money, heated leather seats that are exactly the same width the trucks original seat was a nice bonus.

http://www.alangrovecomponents.com/Chevrolet_LT-1.htm . I had a set of their brackets on my LT1 '79, and they were pretty quality parts.
