Re: Long box converted to short box
Only way I'd think about it is on a crew cab build. For a regular cab, the SWB trucks are just way too common to want to cut up a LWB.

Re: Long box converted to short box
As far as I am concerned there are only two ways to do it correctly. The first (and best) choice is to swap frames. The next best choice is to cut the original LWB frame in a manner that won't weaken it. Take a look at the article posted in FAQ by glock35ipsc "
How to shorten a LWB frame" If your not doing it like this, your doing it wrong.

Re: Long box converted to short box
Are these pictures of what you already did? If so then I would highly recommend to now just get a short box frame and swap it out. IMO that frame has lost it's structural integrity.

And I would still fishplate the inside of the frame....

Re: Long box converted to short box
your absolutely right. i know that you must have a radius at every corner (notch effect) in this case i should have researched it first. I have made a channel plate that i bent to fit over the frame out of 3/16 plate and welded it solid.
looking at that curved cut just blew my mind on how stupid i feel about making it a straight cut, i should have known better. but believe me, i plan on getting this saftied if it will pass, then new frame over the winter. this is my first build period and i have found many things that i should have done differently and then found this forum and found even better ways. thank you for the replies..=) |

Re: Long box converted to short box
while I would have done the step like shown above, my crew was done before I bought it like you are doing. It is very strong and I have had no problems with it. I plan on keeping an eve on it though. Oh and it is a one ton frame so it is quite a bit thicker than a half ton frame......
