rearend length

can anyone tell me if the six lug rearend are different length than 5 lug thanks

Width I heard is different. I believe 5 lug axles are longer to match up with the wider disc front crossmembers.

Some six lugs are the same length/width. The change happened in the 70 year. most prior to mid 1970 were 1.5" narrower that the 5 lug and later model 70 6 lugs. I am told the difference ws to make the front and rear tracks the same when the disc-brakes became an option/standard.

67-70(early) 62" wide mounting surface to mounting surface

70(late)-72 63.5" wide mounting surface to mounting surface
