Hate to tell ya, but that comes up as a 68-74 327 or 350. Pass. car.
The DZ was a code for the 69 302.
What are the head numbers?

Re: I love people who dont know which engine they put in

That happened to me. PO told me the motor in a '71 Jimmy was a 327. After it blew up I ran the numbers and it was a Mexican 350 Targetmaster.

Re: I love people who dont know which engine they put in

The 327, 350 and 302 all had the same 4.00 inch bore, so they could all use the same block. The number and two letters stamped in front of the passenger head on the block is the one that tells you which car it came out of.

Re: I love people who dont know which engine they put in

It has been many years ago now my son was on his way back to New Jersey when the engine blew in his '70 Chevy pickup. He got towed to a junk yard not far from where he broke done so he could get another engine.

The only running engine the junkyard had that would fit in his truck was supposedly a 307. With the help of the people at the junkyard my son put the engine in the truck and went on his way home.

A few years later he decided to pull the engine and rebuild it. By running the numbers on the passenger side in front of his head he was surprised it was a 350. When he tore it down he also found out it was a 350 with a 4 bolt mains.

Just a little info, some people really don't know what kind of engine they have in their vehicles. I found this out when I worked at auto parts stores for 5 years.

Same thing here,
When I bought my blazer the P.O. thought it was a 307.
Turns out it was a 327.

Re: I love people who dont know which engine they put in

When I bought my truck, the guy told me it was a 327. Had the points distributor & externally regulated alternator, so I didn't argue.

A few months later I ran the casting number. It was a 400. The harmonic balancer also said it was a 400. (The front pad, however, said it was a 350.)
