250 Inline Six Harmonic Balancer pictures.

I'm pressing on the harmonic balancer on my 250 L6 and would like to know how far the gear needs to be pressed on, anyone got any old closeups of the stock setup or what they've done. I've already pressed it on so far, just dont want to go to far or do I go until it bottoms out on the timing gear?

I would think it need to line up with your water pump Pulley....I dont know but It seems simple enough to loose bolt your water pump on and pulley to line up your belts to match your lower pulley...
Is there a reason that would NOT work?

I went out to look at my 250...and heres a few pics to help you..
It looks to me like the Harmonic Balancer is flush up against the Timing cover.
yours looks like it need to slip on more...as far back as it will go.

Got it on tighter today, about a centimeter from lining up with the water pump/fan pulley and the tool I rented from autozone snapped. I'm probably gonna owe them 40$ and it's still a centimeter off...

I have to agree with Ol Skool. When I replaced mine, I heated in an oven to 225 - 250 degrees, set it on the shaft, placed an oak board on it and knocked it on with a hit from a small sledge, it seated all the way back without much effort. It is flush with the timing cover and lines up with the water pump pulley.
