Dorman pins/bushings 83 Chevy

I picked up the Dorman 38400 pin/bushing kit and have put the bushings in but the pin is being a little difficult. What's it take, a BFH, or some kind of press? Was using a hammer but doesn't seem to want to go and I don't want to bend the hinges. Was thinking maybe a large C clamp might get the job done. Any tricks to this? Thanks

I heated up the hinge bracket with a propane torch put the bushing on and one smack with a decent ball peen and it was in. you might have to put some pliers on it so it doesnt bend but I ddnt run into any issues.

I cut the original pins in half while it was still in the truck, and then they came right out. Much easier, and no chance of bending the hinges.

^^ Used that trick when taking them out. But now I have everything back together aside from getting the pin seated all the way. Where the splines are at the top of the pin, it just wont go in any further. I'm going to try and support just under the hinge with something, then give it a whack with a hammer again. Maybe there is too much bounce without any support under it?

This is how I put the new ones back in, if this is what you are trying to do.

Re: Dorman pins/bushings 83 Chevy

I had done a search and found your pic before I started so I did that with the bushings. Thanks. But now getting the pin to go all the way in was kind of a bear. So what I did was used my floor jack, a piece of 4x4 lumber, and a socket and gave some support under the hinges and it finally went in. I will try and post of pick of what I was doing. I still have 3 pins to go, but need a run to the parts store to get them.
