new guy with a question
I'm very new to the site and thought I should introduce myself. I picked up a '72 earlier this summer and found this site to be an excellent source of info. One of the first things I did on the truck was pull out the dash cluster and fix the gauges and lights as the only thing working was the speedo. I tracked down everything posted on how to tell if the gauge was working and ended up only needing to replace the float on the sending unit. Anyway, I really appreciate all of the knowledge that is shared here. Sure helps out.
here's a picture of the top of the gas tank. Any idea why the PO would block one line? |

Re: new guy with a question
Unless the vent lines that run up the cab are broken, I really dont understand why either.

Re: new guy with a question
A lot of people remove the charcoal canister and block off that connection on the tank. Then install a vented gas cap.
I left the hose on my tank to act as a vent for the tank on my '71 since the gas cap on it is of the non-vented type.

Re: new guy with a question
Hey shyguy, what do you mean by a charcoal filter? I disconnected the other line, unbolted the vent piece but it's just a looped fuel line. where is the filter?

Re: new guy with a question
The charcoal cansiter filter thing is inside the passenger fender at the very front by the battery.
I imagine there are people with these trucks that don't even know they are there. I think they are '71 and newer trucks that have them and I have found not all of them have them.

Re: new guy with a question
The line that is plugged is the cab line that runs up into the top passenger side of the cab. I would think the only reason to do what he did was he was getting fumes out of it when the tank was full and getting hot. Most fumes are from the gas tank cap itself though not those lines.
