Frame repair kits
I have seen frame repair kits for the steering box area of the frame, but I need something to repair the area around where the rear shocks mount.
Does anyone know of a company that makes something like that? I thought there would be something as this seems to be a problem with the 4-wheelers? I have tried a few local places that would do that sort of thing but they all said they would not touch it because of the things I have already done (crew long bed into a short bed, c-notch). Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Frame repair kits
Put some big washers or take it to a shop that has a pair. Rear shocks has nothing to do with you cutting the frame.

Re: Frame repair kits
Post a couple pics of the exact issue you're having. I'm sure we can help you out. I would tell you to bring it to my house and I would fix it but that might be one heck of a drive!

Re: Frame repair kits
I too would like to see pics. I am guessing that if you have done the other work to it, and you are having the frame split where the shocks mount, you can do the needed work.
From what I picture, and this may change if I see it, grind out the crack to a bevel. Drill a small hole at the end of it to stop the crack there. Then weld it up. Grind the weld. Fish plate it and paint the area.

Re: Frame repair kits
basically all you will need is a bit of flat stock (steel) and a few drill bits. a welder of course to.. nothing special just big enough to get good penetration. doesnt need to be pretty since you can grind it. but make it strong

Re: Frame repair kits
Thanks for the responces!
I have pictures, but at home so I will post them later. In the meantime, the rear shocks mount on a "stud", that is bolted to the frame. The stud is threaded on both ends; one end for the nut that secures the stud to the frame, the other for the nut that captures the shock eye on the stud. Hope that is clear! The hole in the frame where the stud passes through is (guessing) about 1/2" diameter. The area around this hole has broken away probably about 1" to 1-1/2" in diameter. On at least one side of the frame, there is cracks going towards the front and back probably 1". This was on an ex-USFS truck so my best guess is that these studs came loose and got wasted by being driven on dirt roads while loose. When I bought the truck, someone hade welded some big washers to the frame to mount the studs, but they had been wallowed out again so I ground the welds off and tossed them. At this point they were useless. The real trouble here is that just below where these holes are, the frame is indented to clear the shock body. Since this truck has a flip kit and I am using the lowering shocks (which came with new studs), I am concerned that if I don't get stud back to the same offset as the OEM location, that it will stress the shocks too much (being out of alignment). Hope that makes sense, but I will post pictures later...

Re: Frame repair kits
Make your own. I would weld the cracks, grind them clean, then add a reinforcement plate on the inside.

Re: Frame repair kits
dang. what happened? i took a piece of scrap metal and heated and beat it to fit the curve of the frame for the outside and a thick washer for the back. welded them and grinded them to look decent. still working on painting the frame tho.

Re: Frame repair kits
Had an old buddy of mine that builds rock-crawlers take a look at it the other day and he said , "dude, bring that thing by and we'll get it taken are of".
He said it turned out to be cracked worse than he thought, but it only took him one night after work for each side. He tried to refuse payment, but I insisted he take about $25 an hour. Because this won't be the last time I come calling...
