Struck gold at the Pick n Pull

look what i found

-trim that i was missing from my door
-speaker brackets for behind the seat
-headlight bezel that i need (now i can get rid of the plastic one)
-oh ya, a 700r4 out of a 86 2wd with 105k miles(this truck did not belong in the scrap yard...)
-wait there was one more thing, ahh yes.....a tach cluster

grand total... $191

now i'm going to have loads of questions regarding the tach and 700r4 swap, so stay tuned

Re: Struck gold at the Pick n Pull

You scored well, but be forewarned. It appears that you have an early style cluster that has an AMP gauge rather than Volts. They are wired differently and will not work in your 79

if i swap my 79 gauges (ie. oil pressure, water temp, and voltmeter) and buy a new circuit board. what other modifications need to be done to the wiring?

Read this carefully. I think you'll need to sell the one you found, and buy another 78 and up for your truck. Great score tho!!!!!!! http://www.73-87.com/7387garage/inte...achometers.htm

If you move one terminal in the cluster housing and use a stock voltage gauge inplace of the ammeter then it will work fine.

Re: Struck gold at the Pick n Pull

The cluster you bought also has a mechanical oil gauge versus the electric you currently have. That's another issue to overcome. Personally, I'd trade for a 78 up cluster--then it's plug and play.
