Re: Bed shocks

umm let me see I guess you guys dont have campers or know they are heavy are top heavy they are.

now this is not a problem with a little camper but with a camper like mine that sticks out 5 feet past my 8 foot bed threes a problem.

my friend mess up the cab of his truck when he slam the brake and the camper slam into the cab..

when I was I kid u use to watch the camper bonce on the truck it was fun to ride up top looking out the window.. the wind was the murder on the truck... good thing my dad was a truck driver so he knows how to drive in high winds..

I dont want new aftermarket like the big air tube you put on the cab of the truck. or the air bags you put in the bed...

I did find the over head cab shocks the new one look like the shocks that hold up a car hatch back..

I know you guys seen this I seem them all the time

hears what the OEM shock looks like....

just found this umm.

Re: Bed shocks

Ok i think i got it now, still not completely clear. The trucks frame is flexing or is the camper its self flexing into the cab? When its mounted in the bed thats just to stow the unit while your not using it?

Re: Bed shocks

I still don't get what the shock is for in the first picture. Is it bolted to both the spots the brackets are touching or do you bolt one side to the camper once its in there?

Re: Bed shocks

I thought it mounted to the inside of the bed thru a hole in the front of the bed (that you can't see) and bolts to the back of the cab.

I too, don't get the advantage of the system?

Re: Bed shocks

By the looks of it the just stop the frame from flexing up and down in the middle. A lot of those slide in campers come well forward of the windshield so they would exert a lot of force on the frame at the front bed bolts. I would think the shocks would help a good bit on any roads that weren't really smooth, or bridge and RR crossings, etc. Washboard roads would be a prime example of where they would help alot.

Looks like the attatching ends of the shock may screw off. If they do you only have to hunt for a shock that size and screw them back onto the new shock.

Re: Bed shocks

I know frames flex, but i had no idea they could flex enough to need dampening from a cars shock absorber.

Re: Bed shocks

The box to cab shocks were part of the deluxe camper special package;included were 4 mounting holes in box sides to tie camper down and 2 mount plates on front fender to attach front shocks to camper.
RPO Z83 was 423.00 w/o dual rear wheels and included a rear sway bar on 2wd

If you think about it next time you go driving, look in your outside mirrors at the truck bed and compare it to the cab, in other words aim the mirror so you can see the cabside and bedside where they meet. they move around a lot! especially when the roads anything but smooth. My 3/4 ton seems to move more than my old half ton did. so if its true to form, your trucks heavier than mine so it may move around more than that.

Re: Bed shocks

Maybe this problem caused by campers is what inspired people to chop their tops a couple inches.
