Question Door/Window Handle Quality

I wanted to see if there was much difference in the repop door/window handles when compared to originals, or NOS parts.

Re: Door/Window Handle Quality

The ones you get in the help section at the auto parts stores suck. They keep breaking on me. i would go with oem or billet.

Re: Door/Window Handle Quality

That's good to know. What about the ones you pick up from Classic Parts or other 67-72 parts dealers? Good quality?

Re: Door/Window Handle Quality

I have rebops (exterior door handles) on mine from The Truck & Car Shop. They still work fine but the casting on the thumb button is not too good cuz because whatever is behind the button (part of the button casting) is starting to map to the exterior of the button so I can see a circle on the flat portion (where you press with your thumb).

Re: Door/Window Handle Quality

I bought mine from Classic parts about 7 years ago and they still look and work great, I just bought another set for my 72 and they look to be the same quality. I did buy some from NAPA auto parts once and I agree they fall apart quick, the knobs fall off the window crank and the door handle striped out fast.

Re: Door/Window Handle Quality

GM still offers theirs but at $30 each they are awful high for the same thing that the repops are selling- yes the GM versions are oem but they are just as cheaply made. I have GM units but honestly the repops I just put on the 68 are no different from the GM pieces that I put on my 71.

Re: Door/Window Handle Quality

Thanks for the info guys. I need to pick up new window cranks and I'm not sure if i should get GM or pick up the repops. Wouldn't even mind a nice OEM set, just didn't want to spend the money and not be happy with the quality.

Re: Door/Window Handle Quality

I just picked up a set of inner and outer repops today and they appear to have the same heft. So far, so good.

Re: Door/Window Handle Quality

Nate, it's a crap shoot. I bought one set of repops, they lasted 2 months the window crank gear spline side stripped on one the other the knob broke off. (LMC or Classic Parts) Bought another set from GMC Pauls I think? They have lasted two years but believe they were repops too. No issues...Knock on wood!

Nate- I would pick up a nice used original set. I got a near mint set from Tom Korinek and you can't beat OEM. I'll bet Randy has a nice used OEM set too.

I had the same problem with the repops on my blue 72...only it pushed through the thin exterior of the button, and the pin along with the entire button assembly fell out, rendering it useless

leddzepp, that's kind of what I was thinking, so I'll throw up a WTB post as my driver's side window crank has spun its last time.
