Post need vac info on carb 2 barrel - 305v8 - old motor

Ok I got a used truck from a friend
its a 1985 chevy truck 2wd long wb

he had a friend put in a rebuilt
305v8 in it its from a old car I
think - Maybe late 70s - I dont know

It had a 4 barrel that used a crap
load of gas, it got only about 12mpg

Some one else I knew had a truck just
like mine 305v8 he got 18-20mpg using
a 2 barrel carb

So I got a 2 barrel, got a adapter plate
to mount it - The plate did not work-
so had to make my own - three hours of
metal work later - got it mounted - it
runs ok but what about the vacuum lines ?

There were not any vacuum lines on the
truck when I got it - Except for the
transmission and Heating-AC control
and they were going to the manifold
vacuum source

The motor seams to run just fine with all
vacuum lines pluged - is that normal

right now I got the choke, transmission
going manifold vacuum source

And the Distributor, Heating-AC control
to a constant vacuum source on the carb

Also its got a Electronic Spark Timing
Distributor - With a place for a vacuum
line - Do I have it in the right place ?

And just about every emmision device
is gone - not that I care

If it's running good, shut the hood and drive it.
Don't hold your breath on 2o MPG though.

LOL !!
This is too funny to reply to, damn, but I am anyways, cuz Im driving(temporalily til it dies, its almost dead, the vette aluminum valve covers are worth more than the car is) an '81 El Camino with a '78 305 stuck in it with 2bbl, and its a pig, 5 gallons gas and 1/4 quart oil for 15 miles, no joke !

Had an '80 model 4bbl aluminum(factory because of A/C in the Caprice it came out of) 305 engine in the '68 C-10 for a while- and it did damn good, and was pretty damn fast too- all in one package.

]A 4bbl primary barrles are smaller diameter than 2bbl barrels- unless you keep pedal on floor, a good Q-jet will do lots better MPG than a 2bbl.

I have a feeling you were getting that bad mileage with the ESC Q jet stil on the engine, thats a no-no, just go find an older Q-jet and a non-ESC distribtor, and fast !

made an adaptor.... lol i want a pic of that!
have fun lol

The adapter plate I made was a half inch
thick piece of metal, square shape, and
length and width of the gasket that went
to the 4 barrel carb

the motor had 4 holes, 2 small, 2 big
The plate has holes over the two big
holes on the motor and covers the small
ones

I had to drill big holes for the carb bolts
and taper them off so the heads of the bolts
would be flush with the metal

The carb is first bolted to the plate
and then the plate is bolted to the motor

Its still got a ESC computer and all the
wires are plugged into the computer ?

I was thinking about getting a non ESC
distributor but I thought it would be better
to use the one its got

but I may try what you said and
replace the distributor

Its got a lot more power now

I will run a tank or 2 in it
to see what mpg its getting now

if it not up to par I may get a older
4 barrel two like you said

The problem I have is that its a 85
truck with a late 70s car motor
and a 2 barrel carb that was never
made to be on that motor

I have a hanes -they suck- Chlton's
and shop book for the truck

They do have Vac diagrams but,
they dont do a bit of good

not any that I could use

what I need is something like
Vacuum diagrams for dummies
