Stock Radio Question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I am wondering what the availability is of the stock radios for our trucks. Are they pretty rare? What does the average one go for so I will know a good bargaining point? Thanks.

I have one in my truck, but the PO said it doesn't work. I tried to pull it apart and looked at it... i just think it isn't getting power. Sorry for the hyjack

If you can find one at a salvage yard they'll go for around $20. I've seen them on ebay for $40 plus in the past.

To be honest, they're only good for show cause most only have AM and the dial only goes up to around 1550. I have one but the only AM station worth listening to in this area is at 1620.

I'm waiting for an aftermarket that's quality built without a ton of bells and whistles and has good audio and reception. I may be waiting for while...

It depends on what you like or don't like. I think nothing looks better than a factory radio, but a lot of people go aftermarket for better sound quality. If you do have an AM station or two in your area that are still worth listening to, go ahead an put a factory radio back in. Most of the ones I've dealt with still work fine.

I have one out of a 67. I dont have the knobs. You can have it just pay the shipping. J.

I personally like the look of the stock radio. I recently bought a stock speaker replacement for my truck and it sounds great I get a good oldies station and lots of news stations and some engine noise but then again I only have AM.
Heres a link to the stock speaker reproductions where I bought mine under $50. just incase you are in need of a new speaker.

Do you have any AM stations above 1510 or 1520? And if you do, does your radio dial go past that? As I mentioned the only AM we have worth listening to is at 1620 and neither one of my radios go up that high.

Is it the bracket that makes it expensive? I have a derelict speaker with the original bracket and I'm not about to use it.

In mt '69 I am running a stock AM radio with an FM converter.

FM converter Tell us more about it? Is it easy to do how expensive is it?

The AM band has been 540 to 1620 since the 1930's. The radio dial for a stock 67-72 is marked 550 to 1600, and will cover the 540 to 1620 range. If yours does not then it needs serviced!

hmmmm, I have two that only go up to 1510 or 1520 (religious channel). I guess I'll just have to forego the service at this time.

I did find a restore site on the internet some time back but the guy seemed to be a "soup nazi" type. You send it in and he will get to it when he can and don't bother him or it goes to the end of the line or he will return it to you.

I'll just wait for a good AM/FM to come out. Thanx for info.
