New trailing arm bushings...

2 questions

1. Do I need to use any kind of grease on the big bolt that runs through them? No instructions.

2. Is #1 a really stupid question?

Thanks.

Re: New trailing arm bushings...

Not a stupid question, they do usually come with a very thick waterproof grease. It's very very sticky, the clear kind that comes with poly bushings. I smear it all over the bolt, and inside and out of the bushing. It will keep the squeaks down and if nothing else keep the bolt from corroding.

O'Reilly has those little loctite and grease packets right at the counter, 1 should do it.

Since we're talking about this, I have one for you. What side does the bigger shoulder of the trailing arm bushings go to, in or out? (for real, I don't know).

Re: New trailing arm bushings...

1. Stock bushings, the rubber bonded to metal type, don't need any grease. However, if you grease the bolt it might be easier to get it out the next time.

2. The only stupid questions are the ones you didn't ask because you were afraid people would think they were stupid.

Re: New trailing arm bushings...

I got the kind from Brother's that comes complete with the outer metal sleeve, too. I had to have a shop press out the old and press the new back in. I didn't really pay any attention to which way they put them in. Looks like they just put them in with the big side toward the driver's side on both. I wouldn't think it matters.

These didn't come with any grease which is why I asked. Seems to make sense to me to put some grease on it.
