Re: Best Paint for Rally Rims??
Here's what I used:
Krylon (Metallics) - 1403 Dull Aluminum It's tough to find be I picked it up at O'Reilly's. Check out this link (post #185) for an after shot with the paint on the wheels: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...k+slate&page=8 Let us know if you end up using something difference, and your experiences with that product.

Re: Best Paint for Rally Rims??
The correct color is argent silver, many mail order part houses carry it. Silver Alumimun Rust-oleum is very, very close and can be found at Home Depot or Lowes. Shoot a coat of clear coat and it will last a long time.

Re: Best Paint for Rally Rims??
Unless you clearcoat the rims, use the rim paint that duplicolor sells for the different rim colors. Go to OReilly's

Re: Best Paint for Rally Rims??
I did like most have already stated, had them blasted ,sprayed with Krylon primer inside and out.Sprayed faces with aluminum silver then a coat of hammered finish they came out looking pretty good. That hammered silver is a pretty tough finish. Also been running almost a year.Good Luck!!

These are the pics just as I got finished painting the wheels, right before getting tires mounted. The paint I used was Krylon bright silver for a base then used Krylon hammered silver over to finish off.

.Also, we painted a buddy's 4-Runner wheels (his daily driver) gunmetal grey using the wheel paint at O'Reilly's at the beginning of the summer. We sanded, primpered, painted and cleared using all the same brand and still to this day there's no chips, cracks or peels. He even had new tires installed 3 weeks later and either the paint held up well or the tire shop took good care on putting them on

Re: Best Paint for Rally Rims??
Nope..they were alloys so we just roughed up the top clear coat with some scotch pads, and smoothed the areas where the clear was gone and shot it. No sanding at all between any of the coats and didn't bother wet sanding the clear. The looked good though as is.

Re: Best Paint for Rally Rims??
ya i cant go that route. these older rims i believe are painted? mine are white...
i really hope i dont have to get down to bare metal...there is a lot of nooks and crannies and curves to have to get to bare metal..

Re: Best Paint for Rally Rims??
hey Kev try taking your wheels to your local head stone carver...yea you know the guy who makes tombstones ( there everywhere) they sand blast all the time and will ussually do them for next to nothing...since they arn't in the buisness....just ask them whne the next time they will be doing it or drop them off and have them give you a call when there done
