Using my A/C cab with non A/C heater box?
My 70 truck came with the A/C setup but I don't want to use that stuff. I haven't pulled the system out of the cab or off the firewall yet. There's a member selling a nice non A/C heater box that's about an hour from me for a good price so I'm just trying to get some answers so I don't hold him up. Assuming the non A/C heater box will bolt right in, is there any reason I shouldn't buy his setup and put it in my truck and then sell my A/C heater box set up complete? Or am I wasting my money and I could just take the stuff I need from my A/C setup now and break it up and use the heater box and blower and sell just the A/C portion of my set up? I hope that made sense!
Thanks, Neil |

You don't have to modify the firewall. I put factory A/C in my non-A/C truck with no modifications. Everything works fine. The cold is cold and the hot is...well...ROASTING! I think the larger hole has something to do with more airflow or something. I'm not sure why GM made them different.

Re: Using my A/C cab with non A/C heater box?
But my question is do I just break up my A/C and heat setup to just use the heater box or is it better for me to just use a non A/C heater box and sell my A/C and heat set up complete. I'm not concerned about the firewall just want to know if I'm wasting money buying a non A/C heater box setup instead of just using what I currently have.

Why not use a A/C delete plate and all your internal cab stuff and sell your A/C under hood box? Then you won't need a non a/c under hood box. No mods to the firewall this way which you will need to put the non-ac box in.

Re: Using my A/C cab with non A/C heater box?
Sammy just so I'm clear. I can use my current heater box and slap an A/C delete plate on the firewall and just unmount the A/C stuff under the hood and all will still function correctly? So in short I would be wasting my money buying another non A/C heat setup. Right? Ok thanks!

Re: Using my A/C cab with non A/C heater box?
Of course your A/C stuff wouldn't work because you have that all disconnected. But yes everything else would be stock looking like with A/c in the cab. I've done this in my 71 GMC. Makes a real clean engine compartment this way. I can get you a pic of mine if you would like to see what it looks like.

Sammy thanks for info and yes pics would be appreciated. And I definitely understood before I ever even posted this thread that my A/C would not work. LOL Neil
