Transfer case question

If the chains in a 203 break, will the truck be unable to move? Even in 2wd?

If the transfer case was kept in original condition full time 4x4, and the chain broke you could use the "lock" position and have drive to the rear wheels. Now you still have that broken chain flopping around in there to get into all kinds of trouble.

So then, the trans we swapped in was probably bad as well. Thought I might get lucky and the transfer case be the problem so that the one we pulled out with the other trans mgiht fix it and allow it to move.

If you have a NP203 remove the PTO cover on the left side of the transfer case. Mabe some oil will come out. Then with the transfer case in "lock" try to drive the vehicle forward or backwards SLOWLEY while someone looks at the input drive gear of the transfer case. If it does not move the transmission is not working. If the transfer case input gear is turning and you have no vehicle movement the transfer case is defective.

I really wonder why some people give so much importance to vehicles in their lives. I also own a GMC K3500 Sierra Classic and it has been my constant companion over the last 20 years. But I never felt that I should be overly concerned about my vehicle. I personally feel that we should use our time and energy for a lot of other meaningful purposes instead of worrying about these inanimate monsters. A vehicle will always remain a lifeless thing. Let us not forget that.

Wonder all you want but if this was truly the case i would hang up my membership here and go buy a new truck and pursue other interests.. Just a thought.. Perhaps he's trying to trouble shoot a problem he's having? if thats the case this is the place to ask.

MKP I have had the same vehicle since I was a sophmore in high school, 19 years ago, I also have 2 others. I put a lot of time and energy into them because 1. they have served me well over the years, 2. I dont want to spend 30 - 40K on a new truck, and 3. working on my trucks is a hobby that I like, it is something I can do and my children can watch, help and learn as I am doing it. My vehicle are as much a part of my personality as anything else is. Someday if they want, my daughters can have their pick of my trucks, with the knowledge of how to fix something when it goes wrong, not having to take it to a mechanic for something as simple as an oil change. Our trucks are a harmless hobby for most people. I also personally feel that we should spend a lot less time and energy worrying about other peoples hobbies, and more time working on our own.

Well it still dosen't move after swapping the trans and t-case, so I was wanting to get lucky and the t-case be bad this time so I would at least have one good of each. But I may have it traded to a guy that is ready to do all the trouble shooting and get it out of my hair. Think i'll stick to my 2wds for now on, lol. Thanks for all the help.
