Looking to get a consensus on which you like better: A solid back window or a slider? I just picked up a good solid back window and rubber from a buddy for $ 10 bucks.............................

Re: Solid back window or slider??????

I am not a fan of the rear sliders. I have had 2 different trucks broken into through the rear slider! Besides the only time I use to use my slider was to throw beer... errr .... coke cans into the bed

So my vote is Solid.

It looks like the solid window is going in!!!!!!!!!!! You boys that live in the South know what kind of hell it is to ride in a truck with no a/c during the summer.........I guess I will just need to get a fan that plugs into the cigarette lighter and drive with the windows down all of the time......................

Or just pick days when it's cooler. Dont drive the truck that much during the day. It's usually going to be for cruising at night.

Re: Solid back window or slider??????

Slider is best because every time I've had it and my A/C went out I was just about fine.....solid just looks better though....IMO....but if you got the solid for $10 and you don't have a slider might as well put in the solid...

Im part of the no A/C slider crowd. I may be in PA but we have had a bunch of 100+ degree days up here and the slider saved my butt...........a little bit anyway

Solid, looks better imho. When I yank my glass out for paint, that's the first thing that will go out back never to be looked at again, or swapped to the glass guy for the solid. I'm just glad my latch is not broken on the slider, like most are.

Re: Solid back window or slider??????

I have the slider in the truck right now but, I don't like the way it looks. It just sticks out too far past the back of the cab for my tastes..... And for the jokers who want to break in my rig, here is my equalizer and deterent.......Mr. Smith & Wesson sometimes accompanies him on trips to the range!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Solid back window or slider??????

Mine has a slider, I refinished the frame in satin black when the truck was painted. The stock glass is going back in over the winter when I do the Vintage Air install. One problem I have with the slider is heat, heat coming in from between the bed and cab right into the open back window. My wife and I went to a cruise-in a couple weeks ago, 85 degrees, 45 minute drive one way, had to close the window, too much heat coming in.

So, when they break into your truck, they can get your gun ! I carry a Glock, but I would be even more pissed if it got stolen!

Re: Solid back window or slider??????

I don't know about the security aspect. Years ago they broke in and took the solid window with them along with the stereo equipment. Guess they used it to help carry the loot. Replaced it with slider. Couple years later they broke out the driver side window. And. A couple years ago "they" punched out the lock on a new Superduty and stole a gun too. Had a slider.

Moral: if they want in it doesn't matter.

Slider is way cooler in the summer.

Re: Solid back window or slider??????

Ok after reading all this I will gladly trade with anyone local that wants a solid window LOL I need to find a slider to put in my 85

also I dont want to hijack the thread with this but I do have a follow up question, I am trying to sell my 68 GMC to spend $$$$ on my 85. In the 68 the window in the rear just pretty much pops in. Is it the same deal with the 73-87's as well or are they glued like I have heard the Windshields are?

Re: Solid back window or slider??????

My truck was broken into 3 x when I had a slider -super easy to pry open.
I then kept sticks of wood in the track to deter theives - so defeated the purpose of the slider. Deep factory tinted solid rear window is my preference (not stick on window tint) - I have all of my new vehicles equipped that way. Add an electrochromic rear view mirror and you won't get glare from headlights of cars behind you, or glare from the morning sun when driving west.
