New Member - Father, Daughter '62 Project

Hello All,
I stumbled upon this site while searching for info and have found a new home. I'm blown away by the amount of quality information here! My baby girl (15 yrs old) did chores and saved up x-mas and birthday money to pay for most of her truck. She has and "old soul" and has always liked classic cars & trucks since she was little. She found her '62 step-side on Craigslist and now we are going to spend the next couple of years fixing it up together. I'm sure we'll be posting questions in the near future. I've attached a few pics. I look forward to getting to know the other members.

Re: New Member - Father, Daughter '62 Project

Congratulations on the truck and the father/daughter relationship. I've always happy to hear of another member with the family connection worked into the build. Memories built now will last a lifetime. Have plans been developed yet, or just glad to have something to start with? When I started looking for online information I found several other sites first, but once I discovered this one, about 95% of my internet time has been spent here. The volume of activity and friendly, knowledgeable members looking to share information and help out make this forum tops in my book.

Very, very cool dad! I couldn't get my daughter to turn a wrench on "our" project for anything... ended up letting it go. Have fun with it!

Re: New Member - Father, Daughter '62 Project

Her vision is lowering it a couple of inches, painting it baby blue with a white top and interior. Painted steel wheels with chrome trim rings and baby moons is the look she likes. We will stay with the 6 cyl for a while with plans to stuff a V-8 in it down the road. I'm lucky in the fact that she loves wrenching and has a desire to learn.

Re: New Member - Father, Daughter '62 Project

Great project. I have a 65 SWB bought by my parents new that I am doing an LT1 swap on. There are two more, maybe three, mid sixties Chevy pickups in our car club, and we only have about 30 members in the club. If you are not busy on oct 16,drive down to our car show at the Ruidoso airport and I'm sure she will see some trucks that will get her fired up.

See in real truck world there's no baby blue, it's Brigade blue, snort, spit, punch ya in the arm. LOL My first truck was a 62 Chevy, sniff, sniff. Loved that truck. She'll learn to love hers.

Cool truck and welcome to the website! We can always use another short stepside, small back window build!

Looking forward to watching your build! You know a single four barrel aluminum intake and a dual ehaust set-up on that 6 banger would be sweet!

Re: New Member - Father, Daughter '62 Project

Welcome to the board! My '63 is for my daughter as well. She was 9 y/o when we brought it home. When the neighbor spotted us he called me over and as we chatted I heard the truck start. When I truned around my daughter was bouncing up & down on the seat clapping her hands. glad she couldn't reach the clutch. I'll never forget that one. I'm sure you and your daughter will share a lot of memories. Good job.

Welcome to the fun!!
My daughter and my wife found a 64 short fleetside on craigslist . We had a blast working on it together. Let her do what she can to help .
It has gone to school every day this fall.
She loves driving it and it gets her lots of attention!

Welcome to the board!!! Have fun and remember to take LOTS of pictures. Not only for posting in you build thread but also for her in the form of a scrap book. She will enjoy looking at pics from the old days working on the truck. I only have a few pics that my Mom snapped when I wasn't looking when I was working on my 66 back in High School (90-93).
