To make room for an after market radio. Keeping it uncut can help you in terms of resale, but it's entirely up to you. Some people with uncut dashes like yours put their newer radios hidden in the glove box or center console.

I am sure you want honesty.

That thing is ROUGH. And not worth fixing.

If you want a Blazer save your money and spend it on a nicer one.

You will invest THOUSANDS fixing that rust. And it won't be what you want.

That one has some good parts. But the tub is shot.

What's hanging out of the gas tank? Did the previous owner try to blow it up with a rag?

Wow, the good, the bad, AND the ugly! All depends on the price and what your looking for. See some good stuff on it but also looks like a lot of work. I'm one to talk, working on alot of rust issues on mine right now. Good luck!

In Wi,that might seem like a decent truck, but in the rest of the world.....
Truth be told you have a lot of rust to fix in that one.As stated above, you would be better off with a better tub.Maybe buy a tub from the SW staes and use the parts from that one to option it up a bit. You'll probably save time, money and headaches with a better start.

Re: 1970 Blazer, Thoughts?

If you meant a few hundred bucks when you said "good deal i couldnt pass up" then maybe you could at least part it out & make a little money...especially if the hatch is in good shape.

Re: 1970 Blazer, Thoughts?

While it is rough people fix them up in this condition all the time. Also the man didn't ask about the rust so maybe he isn't worried and/or doesn't care to fix it. Maybe, like the previous owner, he wants it for a hunting rig...or a rig ready for the apocalypse . Though the advice given is valid if you want to save time and money restoring this thing.

Anyways, the top, the crack in the front...I am not sure I see a crack. It looks like a PO put caulking up around the top/windshield frame to seal it. Hard to tell tho.

The other crack? You talking about the seam running down the middle of the inside roof? That's supposed to be there. Are there any cracks on the outside down that seam?

Well since you asked, your going to get about 1,000 opinions, here's mine. It depends on your skill level if your willing to do the resto your self, how much are your willing to spend? and what do you want to end up with. In my case I've got less than 7 grand in it, have yet to repair top and hatch, and by the way, mine was[B]much [B] worse than yours weigh them all out and have fun.

Re: 1970 Blazer, Thoughts?

im not looking for a show truck, iv been looking on this board at resto pics for awhile and iv seen ones with alot more rust then this? what part is considered the "tub"? im no expert by any means but i didnt think i seen any rust or damage that couldnt be fixed by a capable body man.

as for the top, it has been sitting outside and there is no water inside the blazer so i dont think its cracked on the outside. i was refering to the crack in the middle up front, is it suppose to be that ....odvious?

also, if you look at the first pic of the underside in the bottom left there is a black hose hanging down from the tranny? is that suppose to be connected to something?

i know it will be work, but im determined to redo this thing. everyone has there own opinion's as for money. i have a mustang with $12K into it so far and it still needs a paint job. some might think thats alot, some might not. as for my "good deal" the blazer was free.

Re: 1970 Blazer, Thoughts?

The "Full Wheel Covers" are simply the full size hubcaps instead of the smaller "Dog Dish" hubcaps. The only difference between the truck versions and the blazer versions is that the blazer wheel covers had a hole in the center of the two hubcaps that went on the front to accomodate the front axle hubs. While I can't see the pics of your blazer (they are blocked here at work) I can tell you I have fixed trucks that were "beyond saving" so as long as you feel confident in your abilities and have the patients for it I say do it!

Re: 1970 Blazer, Thoughts?

Im not positive but it looks like mold on the top and as far as the seam running down the middle thats just part of how they put the tops together. The front part of the top where it sits on the windshield frame looks like someone filled it with silicone and is really no big deal.. A word of advice to you do not take that top off as the body tub my implode upon itself. It would be wise to fix the rust before any top removal action is even considered..

How are your welding skills?, any rust that is on your truck can now be fixed with patch panels or a full floor, and torsion boxes. If your windshield is rusted, that will be your biggest challege, as they are hard to find and pricey

I say go for it!! I'll vote for you as a future TOTM winner...keep us posted as we like pics

Re: 1970 Blazer, Thoughts?

Demon GT, No the wheel covers aeren't very hard to find. A swap meet I went to in Dallas last fall one guy alone had about 10 pairs of them (the harder to find front ones), and earlier in the day I had bought two sets from a different guy of the blazer/4wheel drive wheel covers.

Also after looking at the pictures of the blazer it is no where near as bad as I was expecting. I wouldn't hesitate to work on it. With that bieng said it will be more time and money in the long run than finding a rust free blazer, but it is no where near unrepairable in my opinion.
