tach wiring help

I have bought a tach for my 86. The tach came out of a 82 blazer and these are the wires that I got from the blazer. Can anyone tell me where they go. The one with the large black connector is green. The other is a white wire with a red connector. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: tach wiring help

most likely one goes to the tach signal off of the distributor / coil and the other to power it up.

Re: tach wiring help

^^ agreed, the one with the spade connector will plug right into the distributor in the location marked tach.

The white wire with the cap on it goes to the distrubutor.

Re: tach wiring help

Have some conflicting info here. Can anyone clear this up? I would have thought the white (one with the resistor(filter) or whatever that is) goes to the distributor and then to the "tach" connection on the guage. The green one would go to a switched 12v source and to the "12v" or power on the tach. Then I would only have to provide a ground. Any help with this would be appreciated.

Re: tach wiring help

The white resistor wire to the dist, green to switched (ignition). If the tach was an option in the cluster it will have a ground provided.
