Fuel system for 6.0l

I want to run a fuel cell between the rear frame rails to get rid of the fuel filler on the bed side(1985 SWB Chevy). What do I need in order to have a proper fuel sytem for the 6.0l? Elec fuel pump, filters, regulators? What type fuel cell? Welded Alum or the plastic style? What fittings to adapt to the fuel rails on the 6.0l? Is there differences between the 6.0l fuel system through out the years?

Re: Fuel system for 6.0l

contact David Boyd here on the board, he makes and sells fuel tanks for the 63-72 crowd and he surely can or does make them for the 73-87 trucks, he can make one with the pump in the tank for FI trucks. It probably would help if you have measurements in hand of space between frame rails and length of the tank that would work for you. he has a special running right now for the 67-72 tanks, but I would ask him anyway.

Re: Fuel system for 6.0l

I run:

Plastic cell with GM fuel sending unit
Dual -8's out of the cell to dual Walbro inline 255's
Then both lines come together with a NOS -8 Yconnector
It splits again just before the rails -8 to each rail
I'm running aftermarket rails from Edelbrock and both ends are threaded
Each rail has a fitting on the front side that T's off.
One side of the T from each rail is a -4 going to an Aeromotive regulator
The other side of the T feeds a N20 noid
From the regulator it's -6 return to the cell.

Does this look right for a system without NOS? Do I need 2 pumps for a stock 6.0l with performance tune, cam and bolt-ons?

Re: Fuel system for 6.0l

No you wont need two pumps for that, possibly bigger injectors with the cam though. MY GTO runs fine on the stock pump, but i needed to step up to 46lb injectors when I added my cam.
