Re: What engine is this ?

Do you have a block casting number? We got 2 very different motors on that number I also came up with
TBG 1970 402 310 Truck L-47 10, 20, 30 and
TBG 1971 350 255 conveab, a/t,

dwcsr,
Can I ask where you got your information?
I got mine from the 1979 GM Parts & Body Catalog for Chevrolet trucks.
I thought they only built Big Blocks at the Tonawonda plant.

Rooster, let us know if you got this # from a BB or a sb engine

Re: What engine is this ?

The first T in TO114TBG is always Tonawanda, The TBG is where I see 2 different motors. They made various motors there over the years.

NastyZ has some info

Re: What engine is this ?

burb71 i think your thinkin of the fact that all big blocks were assembled at the Tonawanda plant, not only big blocks just for reference

Re: What engine is this ?

This is a 402 big block. I just found it facinating how many different engines you could think you had. CRAZY.
It is amazing how many different things you can find on the internet but, not a CONCRETE "Run your numbers" engine identifier.
I will find the casting number tomorrow, it's going to be a real "you know what" in the truck. I looked a little between rain showers today but, to no avail.

I am using a GM book as my reference, this is where all of the other aftermarket books, manuals & guides out there get the information, from the GM publications.
After they try to compile and rewright guides to sell for the collector trade this is where the misprints and mistakes come in.

A simple picture or statement of BB or SB would have solved this debate right out of the gate. Suffix codes are sometimes identical on BB or SB engines but it's hard to mistake one for the other when beginning the ID process. Sharpie
