if you guys were to replace your hole wiring harness with one of the major companys , which one would you use ? painless , american wire , ect , ect . is one better than the other or the same , i could use some feed back. thanks

I used an EZ wiring kit and liked what i got and it only cost 160$. Next time I'm going to use a Rebel wire kit, I hear lots of good things and its made in the USA.

I am also interested to know how many of these different kits come with stock type connectors and such, and which ones just have the main plugs. I know American Autowire has a kit that comes with everything for around 500 or so, but it comes with everything for stock type rewires, plus updated circuits.

The wiring harness manufacturer and type of harness you choose kind of depends on your skills and your truck:

If you don't know much about wiring and your truck is stock choose a manufacturer that makes a harness specifically for your truck.

If your truck has non stock equipment, or you want to add non stock electrical components or you want to relocate the fuse box use a universal kit

As far as who's kit, everybody has an opinion on that and it has been hashed and rehashed here many times. I like "Painless" and have wired (2) cars from scratch using their kits. I did a search for past theads on this subject, here you go:

I wired a friend's 63 Impala with the american autowire kit and was really impressed with it. I haven't used any other brand kits to compare it with though.

I have looked at most of the harness's and after buying the American Wire set up for my truck, there is nothing that I have found that even comes close. I installed a painless into my buddys car and that was anything but painless. I build custom harness's for harleys so I know a thing or two about what makes a good harness vs a cheap one.

If you look around you can get a great price on a complete updated harness that will let you grow with add ons. This harness is outstanding, and I do not get any kick back or have something going with that company. Not being rude but when it comes to this item, buy the best you can and dont try to save money with less quality, it will bit you in the end. Electrical gremlins are the worst..

I just recently rewired my 62 C10 with a KwikWire harness (sold by EZ Wire). I went with the EZ wire to save money. EZ Wire I think is imported, where as Painless Wiring probably uses better quality made in USA components and offers more selection.

If money was no option, I'd get the Painless wiring harness. You can download very detailed directions from the Painless Wiring website to get a good idea of what's involved.

I did the HotRod wires and also the EZ wiring, didnt like either, but keep in mind, my wiring isnt run-of-the-mill either. If I had the $ I would probably go with the AAW update series or painless.

AWW comes with detailed layout as well, all wires are numbered every 6 inch's I think it might be 8 , Maybe I will take a picture of my harness.

I installed a Ron Francis complete wiring kit in my 1966 chevy swbss. The kit was $500.00. The instructions were very detailed and made the job very simple. It depends what you want in your vehicle. Add A/C, power windows, power locks, electric fans, upgrade ignition all these items take extra circuits. Do some research, this is an investment that is very important. If you choose the Ron Francis they will custom build the harness to meet your needs. They do not sell a ganeric harness. They have been building harnesses since 1974. Good Luck.

Lakeroadster summed it up pretty well, but it seems that some people think that $=Quality. When it comes to wiring, you really need to look at the type and quality of wire used in the harness, versatility, and ease of installation. Once you find a harness that satisfies you on those points, you've found the harness for your project. In other words, do your homework.

I'm using M&H on my 69 Vette build, and it IS 100% original as far as guage, color codes, terminals, connectors, loom, etc. If your looking for original, that is the way to go.

I've used Painless kits on many vehicles ... and they ARE PAINLESS ... really simple, and depending on part number, you have extra circuits for later installed acc's.

Now, as simple as our trucks are ... I'm just gonna build my own harness when the time comes.

I bought a harness off of e-bay with 11 circuits and it had a relay for my electric fan,cost me $89.00. It was marked every 6 inchs-lousy directions. I wire Harleys in my shop so it wasn't hard to figure out what I needed to do. I also used the FAQ's section on wiring and I was really impressed with the help I got from it. Just take your time and do 1 wire at a time and check often.

Kinda like the chvey vs ford thing.... Each to there own. Never used a rebel but I have used a few others The AAW is the best I have used thus far.

I like the AAW Classic update kit, are the wires labeled? Their site doesn't say.. I am looking at kit # 500560
