Picture of 1980 C10 fuse block?

Hey all! This past weekend I replaced my light switch with one I got at the junk yard. Apparently that was a mistake, because Monday morning on the way to work, I lost my Instrument Cluster lights and my tail/running lights. I saw a 5 amp fuse that had some faded lettering that said something about LPS, and I figured I had found the fuse I should check to try and get the lights back. Typically a blown fuse will show power on one side, but not on the other. This particular 5 amp fuse had no power on either side. So I jumped from a BATT slot on the fuse block over to the load side of the 5 amp fuse. I tried the lights, and they worked. At least the running lights did. Not sure about the dash lights, because it was still light outside. But the bummer is, the fuse is getting no power to it. So I need to find out where the power to that fuse comes from. Does anybody know where I should look? My headlights, brake lights, backup lights, and turn signals work. Just my tail/running lights and instrument cluster lights are out. Thanks for any help!

In my case the 5 amp fuse definitely does not get power. If I give it power, the lights work. So I am guessing there is a problem somewhere in the sytem before the 5 amp fuse?

Anyone have a schematic or any ideas on where I should be looking next for power to the running lights and instrument cluster lights? Headlights brake lights signals all work. Where does the power come from for my dead lights???

Re: Picture of 1980 C10 fuse block?

Thanks for the pic, motornut. I found the right fuse. It was actually a 20 amp fuse. I replaced the fuse and the lights all worked again. Until I hit the first bump this morning. Fuse blew again. I have a short to ground someplace. Fun for me. Find the bare wire.

you can try to see if the short is behind/ahead of the of the harness behind the fusepanel......unhook the plug for those lights under the hood 3/8ths i think/then try the light switch.........ohms meter the wires to the lights, if it comes out the short is towards the lights away from the the harness
