clicking sound
I have an annoying problem in my 86 GMC. It sounds like the clicking is coming from under the dash. The quicker i go, the faster the clicking is. I've looked under the truck and nothing seems to be rubbing. Someone told me that it could be the speedometer cable. If so, is this a big job to replace?

That sounds just like what the cable in my 81 Burb was doing.
Easy fix it, took me about 10 minutes. There is a clip on the speedo, just pull it out a bit and the cable comes right out. then pull it through the fire wall and follow it to either the tranny or the cruise control on the fender if you have it. ------------------

When you go to get the new cable, have the old one in had. You'll need to match up the size, and the end fitting. It IS a simple job too.

piece of cake job. However, just like longhorn said ensure you get the right length cable. When in doubt, longer will work versus shorter. Nothing worse then routing that speedo cable thru all that mess and coming up an inch short. lol

You can buy the two piece set or the single long one piece. Buy the one piece. Before you install is remove the center cable that turns and add a light coat of oil or grease. The cable comes greased already but I don't think its enough.
