Re: Check this out!!!!
Welcome to our world! We've had this for a few years and its been getting tougher and tougher, any major changes now such as a chassis modification or changes to a monocoque, engine swap to a different engine and so on requires you to pass something called an IVA test which is real tough and involves basically meeting modern standards with say a 40 year old truck. Its a total nightmare and is really threatening to kill hot rodding stone dead. Its really intended to outlaw some of the shonky ricer type builds but in reality is just killing the whole custom car scene stone dead.

Re: Check this out!!!!
That's a bunch of BS. How are us younger generations suppose to pass on hot rods to our kids and grand kids. We need to fight against this. By the way, that just gave me a great topic to do a speech for in government class.

Re: Check this out!!!!
That's the government for you. They hate personal freedom, they hate fun, that we can have fun with these cars and trucks, and that they have no legal basis to stop us. Legal basis or not, Big Brother doesn't care. They will do what they want in order to keep us under the thumb of "progressive", socialist, liberal, bull$%^& policies. They hate the free market, that we are allowed to use what we own in any way we see fit. This move by the corrupt elitist pigs in Washington is just another nail in the coffin, another right that they have stolen from us.
Personally I take pride in the fact that my truck would give Al Gore sweaty nightmares. Screw him, and his environmental whack-job brethren who would have us riding around on solar-powered, plastic-crap, Communist-built hybrid-$%^& econoboxes. In addition, I can't say that I care for rice rockets and the like, but I defend to the death their right to do what they want with their vehicles. They are our brothers in this fight against socialism, and we need them as allies. That'd be a perfect speech. As the government takes more and more of our rights, it's only a matter of time before every single one of us is extinct, driving around in Obama-mobiles--that is, unless we do something about it. I suggest you read PJ O'Rourke's "Driving Like Crazy". Plenty of material to work with.

The mid-term election is only a few short weeks away. Be very careful for who you vote for.

Re: Check this out!!!!
IF the only law was that your hot rod had to be quiet, no loud mufflers or open exhaust, would you still be into hod rodding?

Re: Check this out!!!!
This is a link to the IVA testers manual, all 282 pages of it! http://www.transportoffice.gov.uk/cr...20May%2009.pdf Its not impossible to pass an IVA with a rod as several people have done it but its something that has to be designed in from the beginning and means a lot of new components that are E marked. Oh and the exhaust, 99db. Its also killed a lot of kit car manufacturers too.

SEMA has been helping to wage the fight against the states that want to legislate and enact laws and changes to laws that stiffle the hobby industry. If it wasn't for SEMA, the "Cash for Clunkers" would have been applicable to our hobby vehicles. That woulda sucked, big time. SEMA has been a big influence in our hobby, and they deserve our support!

The problem is, now there are more like-minded, lemmings in Govt power that can and will enact this legislation if given half the chance. Like mrein3 said, be careful WHO you vote for.

Re: Check this out!!!!
Let's see...
Your children are born into de facto slavery. You own nothing of any tangible value in your life, (miss a tax payment and see what you REALLY own) you merely rent it from the government. And you're jes' now getting angry? Uhhhh....ok.... Better to use the Second Ammendment for it's intended purpose, bloody force in defense from Tyranny, than waste another second of your enslaved life dreaming of voting your way back to freedom. Stop struggling and accept your condition and maybe your masters will let you own pictures of guns and cars.... |

Whether I agree, or disagree is moot.
I just want to warn alluv ya that you are probably pushing the limits on political speech and if ya don't back down a bit, somebody will lock the thread & nobody will be able to voice their opinion.

Apparently the aftermarket lobbied the Calif looney toons enough to pass this bill ...footnote though that it happened when we were only 7 billion in debt now its 3 times that and the revenue they lost in smog inspections, it would never fly today. Before the celebration was even over they amended the law to 25 years and yet again another amendment to a cap....1976 and earlier thats it. It wouldnt surprise me to see them repeal the entire thing; and i'll be looking for a smog pump and cat for my daully. Like this forum, sema with all its vendors, magazines, and news both internet and print ....stay informed and by all means fight back, staying silent will not help the cause they will walk all over your freedom and rights. Don't be fooled about environment, global warming, smog problems (pre 73 vehicles make up less than 1 percent of cars on the road and most are show vehicles or not daily drivers and see few annual miles) Its all B.S. they don't believe that garbage either ...its about control and power over your life ....thats the progressive agenda in a nutshell!!!! I apologize to the moderator if I wandered off topic a little ...just feel passionate about the things happening to the industry and country in general ...........Time for a Beer .....Keep this going and by all means support your congressman or senator which shares your opinion, they need u now!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

WHERE ELSE BUT AMERICA ONLY IN AMERICA We have homeless without shelter, children going to bed without food, elderly going without needed medicines, and mentally ill without treatment -- yet we have a benefit for the people of Haiti on 12 TV stations, ships and planes lining up with food, water, tents, clothes, bedding, doctors and medical supplies. Imagine if we gave ourselves the same support that we give other countries. I feel bad for them, but I wonder who cares about America ? Last edited by 69sixpackbee; 10-01-2010 at 05:05 PM. |

I've asked off duty CHP and they tell me "its a gray area" in the law between bikes and cars--trucks. WHAT? noise is noise... when you have your window rolled down and a open pipe Harley passes you and thinks its cool that your ears are ringing, if he has the balls to pull over after I flip him off; its on brother. I don't give a sh#%, your not going to f up my day with your noise pollution!! Fair is fair, if the law says open pipe Harley's are legal then so should open header 572 Chevy's.........now that would be sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BTW Any Harley owners on this website are excluded in the above topic ....as a classic truck enthusiast i will put up with your bike's noise if you own a classic truck too....everyone else though ......buy a freakin muffler!!! |

Re: Check this out!!!!
It's happening everywhere. I just got the latest Diesel Power Mag in the mail and the front cover says, "Help stop the govenrment from banning diesels." I have no idea what the article states because I haven't had time to read it. But, I can tell you smoke bellowing diesels have been a hot topic for the EPA and government for 5 years. This isn't like 5 years of them talking, this is like 5 years of the bill has almost passed and been in effect. It's getting closer everyday. If any of these types of laws are passed, people think the economy is sh!t now, just wait. How many of the US citizens rely on the automotive industry as a career? More than you think. A lot of people rely on this industry for multiple careers. I know I do. It will get to a point where enough is enough.
