Has any changed grills from 62 to a 61 Apache?
Well, I just purchased a 62 C10 Shorty. I really don't like the headlight bezels on the 62's. I prefer all others but 62's. I am thinking about maybe going with an apache grill with dual headlights but I have no idea if it they are interchangeable without having to cut or add any metal. Does anyone know if I have to change anything else other than headlight buckets and grill? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Has any changed grills from 62 to a 61 Apache?
You may need to drill a couple of new mounting holes depending on which configuration you end up with, but if you get the entire 4 headlight grille assembly with the mounting brackets and wire harness it should just bolt on to your radiator support, and the grille harness should plug right into the bulkhead connector on the driver side of the radiator.
The wiring from the dimmer switch to the radiator support is the same for both 2 and 4 headlight grilles, as is the matching connector leading from there to the headlights. After the connector the headlights are wired slightly different depending on if you have 2 or 4, so all you have to do is use the harness that corresponds with the number of headlights. |

Re: Has any changed grills from 62 to a 61 Apache?
is this the grill you are looking for? if so there is a salvage yard near me that had one. not chromed but complete with a few dings in it. I think it is a 61 model grill, but not sure.
the one shown I put on a 65 suburban built about 5 years ago and I haven't been back to that yard since. had to drill a couple of holes, thats all. pm me and I will go back and look for it. clem |

Re: Has any changed grills from 62 to a 61 Apache?
I'm in the process of doing the same thing ... I finally got everything for the 62 grill , didn't like the way it looked ... Got a 1960 grill , being powdercoated , then I'll install .. Bolts up in my 62 with no problems ... Ordered a new wire harness for it ... Excited !!!! Better Looking .... Good Luck !!

Bought my complete grille from Jonzcustomshop. The swap was a piece of cake. Went from 62 to 61 in a afternoon.

The hardest part, aside from taking your old grill off, is to add the wire for the high beams. LMC truck and others have a cool kit out that lights up all 4 lamps when you go to high beam...I have used the kit on all of my previous trucks. Mike

Re: Has any changed grills from 62 to a 61 Apache?
My 65 had that grill and I really liked it.
Now my 61 Apache and it has a later model C10 hood. I still have the same combo.

Re: Has any changed grills from 62 to a 61 Apache?
This is a 1960 grill. The 1961 has "Chevrolet", "floating" in the middle of the grill bars.[/QUOTE]
thanks dude for the heads up... not really sure about those earlier grills. i do like the dual headlights much better. scored another "60" grill for my current project. question??? has anybody tried the spray-on type of chrome plating thats out there? i'm curious about quality and cost differences. |
