New (old) '69 Gmc in MD

I have been scoping out the site for a week or so, but wanted to jump in and say Hi to everyone. I have a '69 GMC 2500 Longhorn that is mostly complete and all original, except the paint. (Was painted back in the early '70's to match a camper that was installed). I bought the truck off Ebay from a location in Nebraska. Got it cheap due to it's camper still being installed (looked bad in pictures), but put new brakes in it, dropped the camper off and hit the road. Drove it from Nebraska to MD in 3 days. Only had problems with fuel filters getting clogged. It is a good truck with minor rust issues in the rockers and the front fender cups. Even the wood bed is in good shape due to the camper being installed since '72.
I am in Afghanistan right now, but will post pics when I get home.

Hi Rob.

I took a chance on the truck, because it didn't look well in the pics due to the camper on it, but after giving it a detailed inspection and firing up the engine, I knew I could make it. The truck only had 82,400 miles on it and the owner had some documentation to back it up. The truck hadn't been driven for 8 years when I bought it, but it ran well, no smoke and trans fluid was clean. The engine is a 350 with a TH400 transmission. The only problem was there was alot of "stuff" in the fuel tank and I had to change fuel filters every 100 miles or so. The fuel pump failed in St Louis but I was carrying spare parts that I knew I might have problems with so replacing the pump was a 30 minute job in a gas station parking lot.

So far so good!

Hi,
I drove my 72 home for a 4 hour drive, I crossed my fingers the whole way. About 5 miles from home I stop to get gas and it would not restart. Battery dead, but a Autozone was across the street, been driving ever since.

Hey there, fellow MD'er. It's definitely cool that you were able to drive it all the way back to Nebraska without any issues, must be a nice truck! If you ever make it up to Frederick, let me know, I'd love to check out the truck.

to the board.

I've had my truck for two years, and I still wouldn't drive it that far.
I know mine wouldn't make it.

I look forward to meeting my fellow Marylanders! The GMC is still driving, but it is not all that pretty. Body is straight, but the paint is needing help. The white repaint done in "72 is showing its age. The truck used to be a nice medium green. I would never make that length of a trip again with that truck until I get around to restoring it.
But it was an adventure that was alot of fun.

Welcome to the board and thank you for your service to the country. I have a son that is over there too, and he stuck me with his 1971 Jimmy to restore (not that I mind). I look forward to seeing the pics.
