Choosing a shaved door kit...

So I finally got some money to finish up my doors. Got everything shaved and now just looking at shaved door kits.

I was thinking of going with this autoloc kit but read it only comes with 35lb solenoids, is that enough pull for our doors?

I also found this spal kit after reading a recommendation over the above kit. This look any better?

I looked at the kits from avs but they are out of my price range. If both those choices are bad, are there any other kits you'd recommend over the above two?

I've been looking at these shaved door handle kits for a while and reading about them. Just keep in mind, these trucks have big ol' doors. Takes a lot to move them, and as far as one over the other, I really couldn't advise or suggest. But the more capacity, the better off you'll be. And I don't think fleabay is your best place to look. Summitracing may be

Oh believe me im not looking at the no name kits off ebay, just used those as examples of the autoloc and spal kits. And thanks for the idea, never knew summit sold kits...ill take a look at em.

Any other suggestions?

This is not from personal experience but I would leave the key lock in place in case of electrical failure had a cousin run it to this with his S10 was locked out 50 lb. or 60 lb Solenoids

Already shaved the key hole, didnt have the key for it when purchased. Ill be running a manual entry cable hidden somewhere.

I have shaved doors on my S-10, never again. BUT! I recently at the suggestion of a good friend, swapped out my solenoids for a kit from AVS. The AVS kit is awesome! They're made for the vehicle, not a universal deal, although they do sell a universal kit.

You won't be disappointed, my S-10 doors now open the first time every time.

Also, be sure to run some cables from your battery to a pair of charging post somewhere under your truck. Place them in an accessible location for a jump box or jumper cables should your battery die.

Well after looking over the avs site for about the 20th time im REALLY considering going with their universal kit for $180. Figured they extra bucks are worth a product ive yet to hear a bad word about.

Oh and a question to the people here with shaved doors, are the door poppers necessary or are we fine without them?

I have them on my S-10 and would say yes, you do need the popper.

You will regret not having them. I had an S-10 without them and it was a pain. You have to catch the "pop" just right every single time, if you don't have them you have to wedge your finger into part of the door jam to have an area to pull the door from. From personal experience, they're much needed.

Yes they are needed. I had shaved handles on a Camaro once, and used a GM stationwagon tailgate switch to unlock the doors. I mounted it under the rear fold down license plate. Turn the key to the left for driver door, and to the right for passenger door.

All was cool till I parked close to a fence on the passenger side. The slope of the driveway had the car leaning toward the fence. Even though my door would pop quite a bit, the slope of the drive created enough pull that I could not pop the door open.

Get the poppers...

Looks like I am by myself but I say you don't need poppers IF you are also installing bear claw latches. They pop hard enough to push your door open some. If you are using stock latches then yes you will want them.

I didn't use a kit and my handles are shaved, but not the locks. I altered the latch so when I stick the key in the lock, and turn it to the unlock position, it releases the latch. the seals provide enuff push to "pop" the door open. It's all mechenical... no worries about dead batteries, or hidden switches. Very Old Skool young'uns!

That works but you still got the lock there uglying everything up.

Hopefully no one tries to pop the lock because that will open up the door, too!
