i thought i saw someone saying they wished theyd laid a topcoat when it was tacky?? anything on that? and what type of topcoat?

go to the por15 website and see what they say, they tell you what you can and can't top coat with, when and everything.

As for top coat, only if it's exposed to sunlight because it fades. or maybe they didn't want a shiney finish? it'll be ok on your skin just has to wear off takes a week or two LOL. But if you were gloves and long sleeves, and pants it'll be alright.

Try to use as much as you need. Clean can up well or place plastic wrap between lid and can when done. It will set up and harden or either you won't get lid off easy.

I just completed my frame/ suspension components with POR 15 a few months ago. The POR 15 is Great stuff. I first wire wheeled my entire frame/ suspension. I then washed it with simple green/ wiped it down. After it dried, I used their metal prep, let that dry per their instructions, then hosed it off. I then used foam brushes to apply the product. The POR 15 laid out beautifully. (looked as nice as sprayed). I applied 3 coats. The first light, then a little thicker on the next two. I did mine outside in the sun about 80 degree weather and let it dry a minimum of 24 hours between coats.
One tip from me. Don't use the Chassis Coat black if you are going to brush it on. I applied 2 coats of this. Its dull to match the factory frame color, which I liked. Unfortunately, the stuff does not lay out well, and shows brush strokes/ is blotchy. I am probably going to wetsand the entire frame and probably do one more coat of the regular shiny POR15.

POR-15 is amazing stuff. I have used it on chassis, floorboards, fender wells, brackets, outdoor furniture, pallet racking, metal carts, metal shelving, house projects, etc etc.

Once you open the can, it's hard to store it so that it is reusable in the future. The absolute best method that I've found is to use a coffee scoop (or similar) to carefully transfer the desired amount into another container. While transferring, if you drip any POR-15 into the groove on the top of the can, immediately wipe the groove clean with solvent. If you close the lid with POR-15 in the groove, you will never open that can again without severely mutilating it. Some people recommend laying saran wrap across the opening of the can before closing it. I do not do this and have not had problems with the remaining POR-15 hardening. Really though, the easiest thing to do is to buy the "six pack" that comes with six individual pint-sized containers and then just throw away what you don't use.

If you want to topcoat POR-15 with something other than one of POR-15's products, make sure to spray it on while the POR-15 is still tacky. Using this method, I have successfully used Krylon spray cans, Rustoleum spray cans, HOK primer, and Kirker paints and primers, and probably some other stuff I'm forgetting. Point is, POR-15 has not reacted to any topcoat that I've tried, just get it on before the POR-15 dries.

Case in point: I wire brushed some rusty pallet racking, brushed on some POR-15, then spray bombed it with Rustoleum. Several abusive years later it's holding up great.

I have found that foam brushes start to disintegrate after about 10 minutes of use with POR-15. I'm not sure if it's a chemical attack or if it's just from the mechanical action of brushing a paint as thick as POR-15. I've had best results with a 2" disposable bristle brush (aka chip brush).

I have found mineral spirits, paint thinner, and acetone will clean up POR-15 if you get to it fast enough. Other solvents may work as well, those are just the ones that I usually have on hand.
