New guy on the block - 76 K20

Finally got my account validated so I can post a picture of my recent purchase.

1976 K20 - 350 mated to a SM465/NP205 drivetrain. PO called it Big Red - I plan to keep the name. Truck has 71k on the clock and had quite a bit of work done the last couple years with all of the receipts...

-Bed has been replaced (no rust)
-Cab had the floors, cab corners, rockers and mounts all redone - underside is seal with an epoxy paint - all repairs were fixed using metal - no putty or bondo.
-When the cab and bed were done, the frame was cleaned up and sealed
-New brakes all the way around, including lines and calipers in the front
-QJ carb was rebuilt
...and a few other items.

I got the PO to throw in the a new driver's side fender, passenger side door and radiator support. He purchased them but never got around to replacing them. I think I got this for a pretty good price based on what I've seen on the market - and the demand in my area.

In my area its damn near impossible to find a decent truck from the 70's so I had to drive 250 miles away to pick this up - damn cash for clunkers!! On the way home, it drove fine - not a single problem. Most of the trip was highway and I drove between 65-70mph - avg was around 12mpg (4.10 gears).

The bellhousing does have a hole in it (I can see the clutch - about half the size of a credit card) - not sure what caused it, so I plan on replacing it very soon. My brother in law used to work at a body shop and does stuff on the side, so I hope to have a decent paint job by the end of this year.

Primary purpose of the truck is to haul firewood (heat with wood) - but I can see this turning into a long term project - I love driving this thing! My son is 3 months old and I already have plans passing this down to him...last of the real trucks IMO! I had a 99 Z71 many years ago and this thing makes that truck seem like a toy...

Anyways, glad to finally be a member after lurking for many months....

Re: New guy on the block - 76 K20

Thanks everyone!

I have a question though...on the door my truck says it is 7500 GVW. This truck has 7 leafs in the rear, 3 in the front, HD brakes, 14 bolt FF and Load E tires.

What does the 8400 GVW version have that mine does not??
