starter solenoid wires- which goes where?
I recently bought a 72 Chevy c10 with no engine and trans. I am slowly getting it back together with a 30 and 700r4. I can't remember for the life of me which wire go where on the starter solenoid. It has been years since I swapped engines in a truck without an HEI. Since I didn't do the swap, I didn't pull everything, and the P.O. didn't label anything. THere is a yellow and a purple wire...Which goes where on the solenoid ?!?!

Yellow to "R" terminal and purple to "S" terminal.

Re: starter solenoid wires- which goes where?
If I remember correctly, you can do away with the yellow wire altogether. Just need the purple for cranking power. I don't have yellow on either of my rigs and they are both HEI.

Re: starter solenoid wires- which goes where?
Sounds to me like he does not have HEI.
The S terminal is normally closest to the block, and the R is normally to the outside. But, not always. |

Re: starter solenoid wires- which goes where?
I also need some help. Bout fried my wiring harness today. I believe we hooked the yellow and purple both to the inside and it sent power back through the outside harness. Good part is the motor did start. Which wire goes to the new hei dist we installed on my 73 model 454 installed in my 72/67 hybrid - we call her "El Diablo" as she has fought us all the way. Hope to start a build thread next week. HELP an old hillbilly out

Re: starter solenoid wires- which goes where?
Just to add a little, I ran a wire like you described, but I put an in-line fuse in it.
