Help! Problem laying bed wood

This afternoon I started laying my newly varnished wood and ran into a problem. Not sure why this is happening and figured someone may have seen this before. The two pieces of wood that have the bolt holes will not lay flush because of the frame rivets shown in the photo. There is a very small space between the wood and the frame cross member. Maybe 1/8". The head of the rivet is taking up that space so the board will not lay flat. I imagine I could put spacers between the frame and sills to raise the bed but I didn't think this was necessary. Has anyone seen this problem??

Re: Help! Problem laying bed wood

Here's what else I noticed. The bed is obviously sitting low when you look at the bedside line body line compared to the cab body line. Correcting this line would also fix the clearance problem with the rivet. Still I can't figure out why this is happening.

Pads, what do they look like?? Are they 1/4" thick. That's the height I need. Since the previous photos I went back and added the c-shaped pieces under the sills. Didn't help much.

Rat has your problem solved. If that isn't enough to come out flush I would put an additional shim for this to look right.

Re: Help! Problem laying bed wood

since those are soft cushions i'd think that wouldn't solve the problem. i'd make spacers out of metal and tack weld to the mounting pads on the frame

dont forget to run a good ground wire from the bed to the frame so your rear lights work properly

I relocated the batter to clean up the engine compartment

That's exactly what I ended up doing. I made temporary spacers out of scrap metal. I'll make better ones later. I had the truck together for a couple months so all the grounds were already in place.

Here are pics of the finished bed..actually 95% finished. Still need to tighten all the bolts. The pics of the whole truck are when it came home from the body shop. I have since put it together but have been waiting to finish the bed before taking more pics. My interior is currently at the trim shop. Should be ready by middle of next week. I can't wait!!

I think I got them on Ebay. I ran a quick search and found these. The LEDs glow bright red..look real good on the truck.
