Crossmember swap

I have a few questions on a front crossmember swap,

#1- I have a 69 short step with drums (no power) all the way around, Now I can potentially buy a front crossmember disk-disk with sway bar 5 lug, If I understand the swap right I just unbolt my complete crossmember and bolt the new in?

#2- I also can get the rear end (to complete the 5 lug swap) I dont know if the rearend is a posi but the question is could I swap the axles from the 5 lug axle to 6 lug rear end housing? My truck originally has a 12 bolt posi

almost forgot the donor truck is a 78 chevy 1/2 ton scottsdale

Thanks for the info, Eric

The 78 x-member will bolt in after drilling out a couple of holes that won't line up 100%. You can also unbolt all the 78's stuff & just swap it to your current 69 x-member. Pick your method.

The 78's 5-lug axles will be too long for your 69's 6-lug housing. If you already have a fresh posi & gears, just get some aftermarket axles. They'll have zero bearing surface wear, they'll be stronger than stock, & it's an easy swap.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
It's like a highly skilled Morrocan sword fighter with a Damascus Steel Scimitar.....

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

Re: Crossmember swap

While you are at the salvage yard, grab the center link and tie rods too. Your stock rod ends are too small for the spindles.
