No brake lights all of a sudden?
Driving down road enjoying my truck when i was told my brake lights were out. Not the bulbs. Taillights work. Got a new brake switch just have not installed it. If i just unhook the switch without removing it and hook the wires to the new switch will that let me know if the switch is bad? What else could it be?

Re: No brake lights all of a sudden?
I just did my stop lamp switch too but it did not fix my problem...my break lights switch going out...left, right... I just ordered this: http://www.classicparts.com/1968-72-...ctinfo/52-675/
I found out the rear harness wires are frayed where they split off left/right light and causing them to short out... hope that helps! |

Re: No brake lights all of a sudden?
Don't forget the turn signal switch , I believe the power for the brake lights go thru the turn signal switch . I would jumper the 2 brake light wires that go to the switch and they should light up if it is the switch. If they still don't , leave the jumper in place and check for power at the back of the truck. If that doesnt work, wiggle the turn signal switch and see if that works......Just some ideas .

Re: No brake lights all of a sudden?
if your parking lights work, then the fuse is good (same fuse as the brake lights)
If the turn signals work, then all the wires from the turn signal switch to the lights are good. There could be a break in the wire between the stop light switch to the turn signal, but odds are it is the turn signal switch. Get an assistant to watch the tail lights. With all lights off, hold the brake pedal down. GENTLY grab the turn signal lever and move it up just a fraction of an inch. If no brake lights come on yet, then gently wiggle it forward and back up and down. If they come on, go buy a new turnsignal switch. |

Re: No brake lights all of a sudden?
Aloha
When I got my 72 here I had no brake lights just turn signals and tail lights, after searching all day I found the plug at the steering column was broken. the clip that holds it together was missing, I squeezed it together and viola it was fixed! Then I used 2 zip ties to make sure it doesnt come apart again. Aloha Marty |

Re: No brake lights all of a sudden?
The brake lights work off of a different filament then the tail lights. Both bulbs could be bad.
